Now that it's long out of production, does anyone know of a solid match for Mixture 79? Or something at least pretty close? Has C&D or G.L. Pease done any kind of "elevated" version? Looking for the next closest thing.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I like No Name and 255 but don't find them similar to 79.The other American Lakelands that I know of are Peretti No Name and Uhle Blend 255. I think No Name is an attempt to directly copy 79. I happen to like it better than 79. The topping in No Name is more floral than licorice and the underlying burley less bitter. Blend 255 is very light in topping but floral like 79 and the underlying burley is very smooth. Both blends are still available but who knows for how long.

Interesting. What blends taste like No Name and 255 to you?I like No Name and 255 but don't find them similar to 79.

But the DHL charge is 56$ for actual shipment to USA, and you gotta do the import taxes before they actually ship it.Good news for you. Mixture 79 is actually still being produced by Kopp Tobaccos in Germany (Sutliff sold the German license to them decades ago), uses the same old receipt and can be bought at Estervals here: Mixture 79 Pfeifentabak 200g Dose Estervals Pipe House - https://www.tecon-gmbh.de/product_info.php?products_id=3150
I had mistakenly assumed that Esterval's Mixture 79 was imported from the US. Good to know that Kopp is still making it.Good news for you. I am pleased to hear this! I cellared some in the tobacopalypse, but you just never know when you need more.Good news for you. But if we only had a Middleton cherry replacement. And genuine prince Albert we'd haveI am pleased to hear this! I cellared some in the tobacopalypse, but you just never know when you need more.
Mixture 79 is a funny one. When I started here, it was the butt of all jokes. So much so that I never intended to try it. Then came the knell of death and I got some on a whim. I love that stuff. I agree with Chasing Embers that there is nothing else like it.
Well this is an amazing find. But holy hell, that shipping cost. Should we all throw money into a pot for a big shipment and spread the shipping cost around? But the DHL charge is 56$ for actual shipment to USA, and you gotta do the import taxes before they actually ship it.
I've been thinking on hard, real hard on ordering one. Can't be worse than what STG sells now a days. And Kopp really does good tobacco though the yearly blends tend to be captain black levels of PG
You may need to be logged in to do so. That was my experience before I placed my first order from Estervals.Well this is an amazing find. But holy hell, that shipping cost. Should we all throw money into a pot for a big shipment and spread the shipping cost around?
*EDIT: On second thought, I don't see an actual option to add it to a cart of any kind. Perhaps this is a dead page for a sold out product?
I had the same opinion that you did, and got a lot of razzing about not reviewing it some years back. One day, I got a package in the mail, and inside was a box of Mixture #79. Whoever did this wrote on a sticky note on the box "Now you have no excuse." I never did find out who the wise guy was who sent it because there was no return address on the package.I am pleased to hear this! Yep. You need to create an account before you can start adding items to your cart. Took me a few hours to get verified by Estervals before I could start ordering. You may need to be logged in to do so. That was my experience before I placed my first order from Estervals.
