Enough with all this positivity! Let's get negative!

What don't you like about Petes?

For me it's the fat, rounded shank/stem like on this Sherlock Holmes. It immediately turns me off.

I'm also not a big fan of the gap between the shank and stem in the system pipe. Looks incomplete to me.

What you dont like is exactly why I love em. Lol. But what dont I like??? Thats a tough one. The occasional lack of quality control, not making any magnum sized pipes anymore is also annoying.

Thanksgiving gifts to me! I was on the fence about the new Dublin Pub and was in a hurry and ordered a regular straight Pub with the exquisite version of the Strand (which will be in the garage very soon!). Found a Dublin I liked and ordered that as well and all three showed up yesterday. The regular, straight Pub I'm pretty sure will be on its way back for an exchange, so I guess I can browse while breaking in the new Strand, lol.

Why are you sending it back?

Why are you sending it back?

Ordered it by mistake - wasn't paying attention and in a hurry and thought it was the new Dublin, lol. Literally ordered the Dublin a few minutes later when it struck me the stem on the one I ordered wasn't right (let alone the bowl, haha). I don't need two straight pub pipes and between the "regular" and the Dublin, the Dublin feels way more "right" to me, but I don't have a lot of straight pipes overall and find more comfort in some bend.

I called SP yesterday to ask whether I should return the unopened tin of the Sherlock Wintertime Reserve when I sent back the pipe and the very nice person I spoke with said I was welcome to keep it - so because she was so nice, I've put the money to good use (plus a little more) and have a terracotta Mycroft on the way, and with the other pipes I've ordered will complete the Sherlock tin set. Always wanted a Mycroft.

I enjoyed the "Professor" blend yesterday - I'd definitely call it a holiday blend in terms of tin note and unlike many didn't burn in an acrid way - it was lovely in the Strand.

Haha, that's taking one pipe and heading out on the overgeneralization trail!

I'll admit the push-gap took me a minute to appreciate in terms of appearance and many pipes later . . . I'm well over it, lol!

The solution is buy more Petersons - they'll grow on you.

This came in the mail today. My first spigot pipe shape ever in 45 years of smoking. I've had faux spigot pipes in the past and they look great too, but this is the first actual spigot I've ever bought. Came from SP as an estate pipe and it looks like it was hardly smoked at all. It's stamped a system pipe, but I have no idea what makes it a system pipe. No well in the shank that I can see, and no p-lip. I suppose it could have a tapered air way for what it's worth, but I am glad that it doesn't have a p-lip. Whatever, it cost less than I thought it would and I think it's a pretty pipe. I'm glad to finally have one.

Interesting. Do you have a shot of the stamp?
Straight systems have a well that goes forward under the tobacco chamber, and a long condenser that goes forward of and below the fire hole. The chambers are pretty shallow to accommodate this setup, and I don’t think they’ve made other than a 31 (small billiard) in many moons.

Now that you mention it I just checked the stamping out closer with a magnifier. I doesn't say system, it just says spigot. Sp had it advertised as a Peterson System Spigot Smooth #150. So I don't know what to tell you. I think they just advertised it wrong and it's not a system pipe at all. I'm kinda happy it's not to be honest.

It is a beautiful pipe, but I was thinking it would be what you found it to be.
May it provide you many many hours of enjoyment!

I've been looking at Peterson's spigot pipes now. (brilliant, right?) And it seems they've changed the shaping of the 150 shape. I don't find a new pipe called just spigot, it's always "something spigot". The lower shank to bowl transition seems to be different too, more slab cut I guess you could say. I'm no Peterson specialist, but I have no idea now where the one I got fit in the line of any of their 150 shape pipes.
Closest I could find is this Terracotta Spigot. The Natural Spigot looks more like mine, but it's not as slender and is very expensive.

Your post of the Red Spigot 150 got me to pondering and thinking and wondering and contemplating and perusing as to why I don’t have one ?

I have an Irish Harp 80s and an Irish Harp 150 that compliment each other nicely and I have a Red Spigot 80s that will soon have a Red Spigot 150 to compliment it that I just ordered a few minutes ago. Thank you for the nudge I wasn’t looking for and really didn’t need.
