I have a plan that seems to be working nicely. What with the ridiculous prices for cigarettes, I bought a MM mini, and a bag of Three Sails. Way back when, I used to roll Three Castles, which I loved, and found that Three Sails is very close. I never really smoked a cigarette all at once, so I thought this to be a reasonable option. I've had pipes before, and had always had a problem with "gurgling"
Corncobs are an entirely different animal. It smokes cool, even for its diminutive size. It takes a couple of bowls to get rid of the "hay" taste of the cob itself, but after that, a very cigarette like smoke. I've been packing loose to lightly burn in the bowl. I may try some aromatics, but this is working well. Any Suggestions?

I wasn't kidding. Aromatics can often take years of technique to appreciate, I was 25 years in when I figured them out and now prefer them most of the time. When Captain Black Grape got discontinued I put up several McClelland tins for trade for more.

I find the mm minis deliver the most cigarette like experience of all the different pipes I’ve tried. And when I was experimenting with RYO tobacco marketed as pipe tobacco, I found the only way I could halfway enjoy it was by smoking it in a mini and entering a cigarette mood, tho I didn’t inhale. It was kinda nostalgic as I have not smoked cigs in decades…

I smoke tobacco much like I smoke weed. The Mini is great, been loading loose bowls of Three Sails, a couple draws and set it down. Thank you all for the help!

Anything that used to come in those pouches. Carter Hall, Capt. Black, SWR.. Codger blends go great with cob.

Yeah if you are looking for cigarette like pipe tobacco there are many a option... both in content and cut. (Personally I believe that when it comes to actually rolling up, cut can tend to be even more important than content... tho that may be a controversial opinion... though if stuffing a pipe it matters not)

Besides actual RYO taxed tobacco in a pipe, you can also use all the rough-cut RYO "pipe tobacco" tax-dodge brands (Generally anything that comes in a 16oz bag and costs less than $20. They will be under the value section of online retailers and generally the only "pipe tobacco" most convenient stores will carry.

If you want a more elevated experience there are other brands too that are a bit more pricey but still deliver on the cut and flavor. Daughters and Ryan is a great well known one. I also enjoy the Kendal line from Gawith... the shag cut gold is a great quality ciggy-like Virginia. Also C&D's Low Country bulk series is one people miss out.. has a few not goopy aromatics and a good, RYO like cut.

My MM Mini is almost useless, but it can be a nice little taster for strong blends. The other night I used it for a single coin of SG Black Rope XX, and it was the perfect size for the occasion.

The mini's a week broken in and i gotta say its working a treat. With the Three Sails, a couple of draws, set it down. I do roll one for the morning, very similar to Three Castles. The light flavor of the tobacco (surprisingly) is much nicer in the corncob, rather than paper.

Been smoking Daughters and Ryan Three Sails. I'll roll one in the Morning for Coffee, but I've found the flavor, light as it is, really is more pleasant in the mini cob. I like a shag cut, Kendal Gawith looks interesting. Thanks!

Ahh I didn't realize you said 3-sails already... I was thinking Sail (green/yellow pouch) pipe tobacco haha, my fault

The plan is working great! Thanks for all of the suggestions. The MM Mini, after about three weeks with Daughters and Ryan Three Sails, has developed the sweet hay characteristic. The tobacco is pleasurable as a cigarette, but the small cob transmits the flavor of the very light tobacco better.

One of the tobacco shops near me that doesn't really carry pipe stuff only has the cob minis. I kind of always consider them toy pipes. You have me reconsidering I'm glad you're enjoying it! I might pick one up myself...
