Thanks, you guys have helped me decide. I think the last time i smoked a pipe i had set my heart on a Peterson, for some reason i thought the name was Petersen and they were Dutch or Swedish or maybe just assumed for some reason. I was thinking one of the Peterson System Pipes and might actually try P-Lip, if i don't like it i can change the Stem i am told. Seen some nice bent Peterson's on GQ Tobacco and they seem cheaper than alot of other places. Think i am going Rustic as well. I do like the Peterson Sherlock Holmes range but they are a bit more than i want to pay at the minute. I have looked at the second hand market but they are asking as much for a used one than i would pay for a new.

Peterson Irish Seconds are relatively inexpensive and a great value.

I idiotically got a pipe cleaner broken off in my vulcanite p-lip a while back. I ordered a Peterson acrylic p-lip replacement. Couldn't stand it, made me sad every time I smoked it (it's one of my first pipes and I'm emotionally attached to it. ) I finally got the guts to take a drill bit to the original stem and cleared it. The result altered the draw to redirect the smoke slightly more back, less straight upwards to the roof of the mouth. I actually like it better now.

I suggest using caution with any pipe cleaner in a p-lip, and don't expect a replacement stem to work like the original.

I hated the idea of a plip in the beginning. Then when I got one I never thought I'd get used to it. Now I dont want anything else. Fishtail stems now feel like they are going to fall out of my teeth.

My experience with Peterson pipes is that if you want to try a filtered pipe that fits the filters properly, get a Vauen, Savinelli or Rossi. The peterson pipe I had was overdrilled for the filter. The filter didn't seal and every draw resulted in a clunk-clunk as the filter moved back and forth in the stem.

once the paper tube gets moist, it sticks just fine.

Do you want to clarify this? Maybe you’re trying to joke? Maybe you’re not joking?
****Peterson are pipes made by lads called Paddy, Seamus and Fergus and depending on when they got paid and how many pints they have had could mean your pipe is made from briar or the toilet brush handle.****

Found that to be rather racist. SO i merely asked if captain racist was afraid to smoke an italian pipe becuase the machine operator could be hocked out on cheap hooch.

Also makes me wonder if hes afraid to smoke captain black because its a "black" captain..

Ok I'll bite, shouldn't but I will. So I'm racist it seems................................just for your own information I can trace my Irish roots back to the 8th and 9th Earls of Kildare, heck one of them was the King Of England for a couple of weeks whilst the Brits sorted themselves out when their King died without an heir and around the same time my family had a rather famous battle on a little hill called Knockdoe in 1504, largest loss of life on Irish soil, so my forebears have bled for that land and we very much still call it home. My family is listed in the Doomsday book of 1086 when two brothers and their wives made it through for the count, you can read their names in the book which is in Kew if you ever get out of the United States and this book was commissioned by William The Conqueror, I assume you know who he is. I have extensive family in Cork and Ulster, the latter being just a little militant and would relish hearing you call me a racist.

As for Italians and their pipes, well I have an extensive collection of Italian pipes made by Castello and I love smoking them whilst quaffing Vino as you put it whilst marvelling at their craftsmanship. Do I have any Italian friends, no I do not but I would love to smoke my pipe and drink their Grappa (correct term for a robust Italian wine) and laugh with them if I was lucky enough.

So I can say I have deep Irish/Anglo roots and the fact that you believe speaking about the Irish like I did in my post was racist would surely be cause for the whole of the Emerald Isle to piss itself laughing. Irishmen and women tend not to take themselves to seriously, unlike keyboard warriors whose sensibilities are impinged by such jovial speak.

So next time you think you're cool hand Luke shooting from the hip just remember there are people in this world and on this forum whom are vastly more sage than what you have presented yourself to be and it might be wise to think before you type in the future.............

Using humor without malice to joke about culture/race is not racism.
Calling people racist without good reason is out of fashion now, it’s 2025 not 2020. The sword of common sense and reason is hopefully replacing the sword of wokeness and cancel culture.

Cancel culture is more en vogue now than it ever has been. It it were an item of clothing it would be doing the rounds on the Paris and Milan catwalks.

Lol it's so cute you defend someone making racist statements.
