“Maigret” on PBS. New series. He holds and looks at a pipe near the start. Later it appears to be his father’s pipe. Is dad the original Maigret? So that element is out. Some character and plot changes to the original story. Will probably watch next week but so far just another PBS police series and so-so.
3/5 stars for episode one.

We were watching Secondhand Lions with the grandkids this weekend and during the scene where Robert Duvall and Micheal Cane are drinking iced tea and shooting at the traveling salesmen my 6-year-old grandson decided they were just like grandpa I couldn't have been prouder.

Just finished watching Alien: Earth

Really enjoyed it and i'm looking forward to season 2.
I'm a big fan of the original movie (it's in my top 5 of all time) and the sequel. Everything else in the franchise has been varying degrees of shit. The third movie wasn't very good and the fourth was terrible. Don't even get me started on the Alien v Predator spin offs. I wasn't impressed with Prometheus and its sequel, either.

The new Alien: Romulus movie wasn't bad and this new tv series was very good. Hopefully it's a return to form for the franchise.

Btw, that sheep is fucking nightmare fuel 🐑😮

Yesterday, Max and I went to the local Cinemark and saw TRON ARES, the latest entry into the TRON universe. Like its older siblings, it is beautiful to look at and and as dumb as dumb can be.

As long as the characters aren't moving their lips and emitting sounds of some sort, the movie works on an action level, with quite beautiful looking and spectacular VFX.

And if you like seeing very well shaped females in tight leather and spandex engaged in energetic displays of martial arts and fisticuffs, you will be well satisfied.

I'm not going to discuss the plot, what there is of it, because it's not really important.

I couldn't get over how close together Jared Leto's eyes are set. Much closer and he'd be a cyclops.

There is a very cool sequence set in Flynn's original server, where ARES has been sent to retrieve the "permanence code". ARES meets up with Flynn, played by Jeff Bridges, who looks like of like a Jedi ghost. The environment is a reasonably good replication of the look of the original 1982 film. They got our lighting and most of the aesthetic, but didn't quite get the simple rigor of the geometric shape language and composition that Syd Mead created. Still, it was nice to see how well it held up in its own terms after the VFX extravaganza preceding it.

If you're looking for something profound, this ain't for you. If you're looking for tight bodied fighting babes amid trails of glowing energy and flying frisbees, this film is for you. If you're wondering what the hell Gillian Anderson is doing in the middle of all of this, so am I.

Been watching Outlander on MGM via Prime and have to say it's been really good to watch. Just finished watching season 6. Also been watching a lot of different Star Treks and just finished watching Voyager.

This was very good, my opinion, 5/5.
Raven Rock is in scenes at the end (underground Pentagon, we called it Site R). I grew up in the shadow of the mountain it is on. You can see the small town I grew up in on one of the scenes, in the distance. My father was on the build crew there in the early 1950's and bought a home in the area in 1964. We were just up there last week. I met my brother at Fort Richie at a new brewery there (closed base, now held by the local MD county). Everyone who grew up there has stories to tell about being stopped in the area. The woods up there were party central for my High School.
