Hello brothers, I'm looking for a few stingers for my Ropp, Butz and Jeantet pipes.

I know some of you just throw them away. Please PM me if you have some to discuss the disposition of.

This is not a WTB thread but I'm willing to cover postage so PM me if interested.

Thanks!

Are you in Europe or the US?

So to the people who say no one likes stingers I present this post. Sorry but can I ask what it is about stingers you like? I've never had the blessing of trying a pipe with a stinger and wondered if it's something I would like or not.

I have a Kaywoodie with a stinger which I quite like. I do think the stinger helps collect moisture, so instead of running a pipe cleaner through the stem when the smoke becomes too moist, I unscrew the stem and hit the stinger against my palm. Quite a bit of moisture comes out.

Did the pipes actually leave the factory with a stinger that you have lost and now need to replace? Or did you purchase a bunch of Ropp pipes from smoking pipes, and want to get the full period fun of a pipe with stinger?

Unfortunately, if its the later option you are out of luck. The stems being sold werent cut for stingers, and there is a good chance the air way in the stummel was not drilled to the right diameter for a stinger.

The ads I have seen for period Ropp with stingers, show the stinger going into the tobacco chamber. And the drawings show a distinct different in the stem for those pipes as well.

its like if you smoke a peterson army filter bend pipe, youll see the filter turns it into an almost system pipe.

Yes, the pipes left the factory with a stinger. One is a Butz-Choquin Capitan70 that would of had the stinger that resembles a game piece from the boardgame "Sorry".

I like the stinger in one French pipe I have as it slows/ restricts my cadence as I smoke Virgina flake.

I have another pipe of the same brand that I removed the stinger from as it just got in the way. It depends on the shape of the pipe but If I don't have the stinger I can't make this comparison to see what I enjoy best.

These are old French pipes from the 1960's-+1970's I'm talking about.

I started piping on these old French pipes so my experience may be different from someone whose first pipes were made without a stinger.

The stinger only helps with a more open airway. It's like the governor on your car. If the governor is set to 55mph you will be upset. If it's set to 130mph on your Corvette that's another story.

Hope this helps.

They still sell stingers at onlne smoke shops here in the EU. I dont know that they were popular enough to have anyone sell them still in the US.

Now I would be extremely impressed if I managed to get the "sorry" reference, without even googling it.
Is this what you are looking for?

Surely Saint Claude must be awash with them? Their various makers seem to love making pipes with them and I imagine they would be the first port of call for spares and replacements.

Yes, all the French shops have them Apparently they are loved becuase they even sell 9mm filter conversion that has a sitinger on the end. Estervalls, le pipe rit, any I look at sell them. Unfortunately, shipping to the US has become a problem for EU businesses and the processing fees for tariffs would cost more than the items purchased.

Perhaps call some of our sponsors who do estate restoration. They probably have them either new or a stack of old ones laying around

Great advice, I'll bring it up should I get anything restored professionally.

If you only had a time machine and were willing to buy in bulk finding stingers would be no problem, although somehow I doubt that Alcoa is still in this business:

Global HQ for Alcoa is in Pittsburgh, looks like seven plants in the US. We used to have a plant in Frederick, MD but it was bought by Can-AM.

Were you just throwing a softball our way?
