I wondered the exact same thing; but the sample I got "looked" exactly like it was disappearing just as I've seen on the old Gold Block......
I suppose I could order another one to inspect and see for myself if it was a fluke.
It def was not giving off a patina effect.
If someone else has one they can chime in and let me know more?
I really would enjoy one that had a proper copper band.....
Inspect it closely to be sure it's not just a clear coat wearing off. Maybe you could write Peterson to see if they used "solid" copper or "plate" on those particular pieces.

Hadn't thought about a "coating"; but to what purpose would they have done that? Short term "protection"?

I just got an email back from SmokingPipes and was told the ferrule is solid copper, without a coating.
I don't know what was going on with the one I got, but my eyes didn't like it.
With this information I may give it another shot. I don't mind shiny copper or a nice patina on it, just didn't like whatever was going on with that first one...........

Regarding the buttons and the new acrylic stems on the system standard line, check this out.
This loaded & lit 2025 Halloween 312 is hanging full suspension via the inferior ridge of the P-lip on the edge of this glass. Only.
Pretty damn good, I'd say. And it's as smooth and comfortable as can be. I'm a BIG fan.

is it just me, or does it look like the button is about 1/8” above rim of glass?
The top edge at bit (or lack of) is what most were disappointed in, and (at least for my teeth) is more important to a non-slip clench.

I am curious to know what you think of it. I just ordered the same XL315 myself. I was intrigued by the acrylic mount.
I myself am not a fan of the Peterson acrylic p-lip stems – BUT... I did get a 312, and am pleasantly surprised by the comfort. I wish the lines were a bit sharper, but overall they have improved the button from the last one I bought a few years back.

My 2024 Christmas Pipe is losing it's bright copper sheen and the patina is setting in. I like it a lot. I do polish it from time to time but the sheen does not return to it's original state, and I'm fine with that.
