Did you scan the code and see what pops up?So we got our shipment of Gawith into the shop and none of the items had date codes. Instead they had this sticker. Anyone got any insider info on if they changed their date codes? If so how to read this?
I tried scanning it. Nothing. I suspect it's just a data matrix code for internal company use.Did you scan the code and see what pops up?
100% total guess here that “54” maybe means April 2025?
I didn't realize there was aGawith account on here.A question for @gawithhoggarth

Blockchain! Now they need to find a way to shove in AI somewhere, and they are fully covered, buzzword-wise.A track and trace code is a legal requirement for Europe and a legal requirement in the UK. It tells Trading Standards or equivalent where the product was made and shipped from and where its destination market is. Its meant to be a way of cracking down on the illegal tobacco market but will make little difference and just means hundreds of thousands in investment for legitimate firms to have to invest in new computers and scanners and label printers.
Could/would you put a date code on the tins?So first we never actually had a date code. There was just an internal coding system that someone came up with a 'formula' for but that we actually used for internal order tracking.
Now that Track and trace is a legal requirement, we no longer need the internal coding system as every single product leaving the factory has a track and trace code on it. So all you see on here is the name of the product, the SKU product code and the sales order number and a data matrix code generated for us.

I honestly appreciate your honest answer instead of the community just guessing! No, we have no requirement for further coding on the tins, we are already pressed for room on tins due to other requirements - security features, tax stamps, side warning labels. We have never put a date code on tins and won't be starting. Tins had no codes on them before around 2016 I think it was, when we introduced our internal order code. If people want to date the tins - get a pen and write on the year on the tin.
