I need to try this one. Pinch of Latakia is right up my alleyDavidoff Royalty from 2009 or 2010. This was back when I wasn't bothering to date my tins. I bought a 5 pack in either 2009 or 2010. These were among the last tins with painted tops instead of stickers.
This is a red Virginia and Oriental with a pinch of Latakia. It is a wonderful oriental forward English blend. Mellow and smooth from age. But also good fresh and still in production.

I have 2 tins from 2022 waiting for me. Did you notice any odd topping? I've heard chocolate is a noticeable one on this blendRed Hunt from 9/21. Seemed a good choice for spooky season

I’d heard that too. I did pick up some slight chocolate aroma. Not at all unpleasant though. I’m really enjoying it.I have 2 tins from 2022 waiting for me. Did you notice any odd topping? I've heard chocolate is a noticeable one on this blend
That looks delicious. Enjoy!Year 2015, I absolutely love this stuff with age on it. I smoked a tin of this along side Old Dark Fired and preferred Jack Knife Plug. Similar but different of course.
Bonus Info: I snuffed some of the dust, very nice. View attachment 421237View attachment 421238View attachment 421239View attachment 421240View attachment 421241
Thank you, I will savor this tin. That looks delicious. Enjoy!️

John, looks good to me…but I’m an idiot! This tin was sold to me already rusty at the tobacco shop, I realized months later. After storing it for a few years, I decided to open it today, as I was afraid it might be in bad condition. It smells like vinegar, and you can see what are supposed to be sugar crystals shining inside. The color looks fine; it still has the natural brown color of canned tobacco. I transferred it to a glass jar. I'll smoke it tonight, or maybe I'll let it dry overnight and smoke it tomorrow morning once it's completely dry. It's also very damp, quite damp. Furthermore, it did not have any packaging information, like all the tins I have.![]()

But why do you say that, my friend Simmerdown?John, looks good to me…but I’m an idiot!![]()

Your flakes look like many flake I’ve smoked in the past. If it’s not fuzzy, they typically are referred to as “sugar crystals”. Get further validation if you like. And I’m naturally self-deprecating. …keeps me humble! But why do you say that, my friend Simmerdown?

I’d smoke it. It looks like the sugary crystals of agedHonestly, I am not an expert on tobacco. But in this tobacco, I did see a characteristic sparkle from the sugar crystals; they shone brightly. However, that tuft you mention, I did find it in a tobacco block, which I still have, it's a mixture of Latakia and Virginia. And that one has a kind of fluff on it. I don't think the fluff is mold, hahaha. Correct me if I'm wrong. So can someone tell me if I can smoke this? Hahahaha. It smells like tobacco, and now the flake that I let dry smells really good, within the 50% range of my shitty sense of smell.

Beautiful. Two tins of Orlik Golden sliced, one from 2009 (left), the other from 2003 (right).

Both have solid seal and no visible signs of rust. These are just two representative examples of the many I have in my cellar. I’m showing them for those concerned with storage. I opened the one from 2009:

As you can see, all is in perfect condition and, in my opinion, worth the effort to store them all these years.
