Here is where I am today, just starting 2500G.

That style is easy. You don't have to worry about the edge of the stem to shank. Just mind the round extension (I'm not sure that that is called!) and the shelf of the p-lip button. I'll wrap paper around a small flat needle file for getting the oxidation out the stem. 2500 is way too high of a grit to start, my opinion. I'd go 800, 1500, 2000 then onto the buffing wheel.

With some any different component blends to make a product called vulcanite, why do we have so much hostility if some stranger doesn't do their dunhill stem the way you do your Rossi stem?

Much more important things to fight over. The proper way to hold a razor. The right way to hold the shaving brush. How many times to swirl brush on soap.

Or just get a Mach III and scrape away.

I sure don’t come to an awesome pipe forum to discuss shaving practices, and don’t know why I check a thread on stem restoration and find a post on such.

The friendly pipe smoker image is just a facade. Wait until you see some of the huge meltdowns because someone found an easier way to do something.

@theTomTom is making an observation and an analogy about early events in the thread. A disturbing trend I've noticed here over the past few years.

And trying to keep it neutral and child friendly.

If you watch videos online by the actual guys selling pipes for 800$ online you'll see them do things "incorrectly" going by a good number of posts on here and pod and even the pipe maker forum.

But rheumatoid get the job done and people are happy to keep buying those pipes. And many of those pipes are also treated as major points art by the owners.

Well, you’re arrogant. It’s off putting.
No much reason to worry. Most ho by forums use the phrase your mileage or results may vary.

To say 'it's what I do. It works for me. It may work for you or it may not'.

But last 10 years it's been twisted into
'If you do what I do and it fails, then you obviously are a retard who can't follow directions'.

You’re misreading the issue. People can clean stems any way they care to. I might offer an opinion or I might not. Depends on the nature of the discussion.
But condescension gets under my skin. Word choice matters . I decided not to let it go this time. You want to say I overreacted? Okay, I will take that onboard and try to do better.
