How does age treat the black twists? I have some black bogie that I like, but not as much as the brown. I’ve put the bogie into the back of the cellar and I’m curious what I have to look forward to.
They mellow a bit (the GH ones), still very “charred meaty”, but a little less sharp (if that makes any sense). I’ve got newer Black Twist (sliced) that’s not that different from the older Black X. I do cut my twists thin and rub out as close to a fine ribbon/shag as I can, and dry them quite a bit.

Dang it! I woke up this morning and realized I let a nice Bari stack get away on eBay by getting busy last night🤨
Anyway, onwards into the week.
Dark Sails in the Briarlee for the drive in, now in the field enjoying burning up more of my Odds and Ends jar in a Peterson London Made DeLuxe 132 stout apple.

48hrs and I’ll be on a plane to visit my dad for a week in NC. At his age (95) I’m grateful he’s doing as well as he is, in his own home. Not thrilled to be leaving my wife since her father just passed last week, but her experience of being able to visit him before he went has her insisting I keep my planned visit.
Grateful every day.

It’s been quite awhile since I smoked this pipe. I think I’ve finally gotten past the not-so-great fix Savinelli attempted on this pipe—it’s only taken three years to come to terms with it—I masked some of the residual grinding marks they failed to eliminate on the rim by impressing the briar with a harder wood. I still don’t like that they coated the bowl, hiding the light, unstained chamber that provided some visual contrast. It’s still a cool pipe. Having Drucquer & Sons Loch Ness in a Savinelli Autograph Sandblasted Squat Rhodesian with a mocha swirled acrylic stem.
