Yeah so sending it off to Arango is still the move? That’s nice to have a trusted go-to for repairs. Wonder if after 4-5 or whatever years I could send it off for them to look over and service for that price, as preventive maintenance.
Mine was well over 5 years when I sent it in. I believe that the $35 repair + return shipping fee is the post-warranty price.
I couldn't find the form online in a quick search, but this post has the info.

I just got my Old Boy last night and my goodness, what a beautiful little lighter. It’s substantially heavier than my Kiribi, which isn’t a bad thing. I rather like the added heft. I haven’t had a chance to smoke a pipe, but I did light some candles with it 
. Is it any better than the Kiribi? Objectively, probably not much. But damn it has a vibe to it. So far… worth it! Now I want the brass variant. I think I’m coming down with LAD, boys.

I really like mine. I ditched my tamper since I light/tamp with my old boy. Just dropped mine onto rough pavement from 7ft on the non tamper side corner. Still works great. Worth the money.
I got mine as a gift from my dad he doesn't smoke and knew I wanted one for a while. It's my most used lighter.
I have the Old Boy and the Pipe Master. Both are reliable.
The Old Boy gets flaky if you don't remember to tighten down the flint screw as the flint wears.
The Pipe Master is the only electronic ignition lighter I've owned that refuses to break.

To me OB and Duponts are the way to go. Ive got Duponts about as old as me.
I know estervals sells parts if something goes wrong. I imagine you can also get them elsewhere. A tank was about 40 euro last I looked. I would think if you busted a tank the lighter is pretty beat up too since the tanks are metal.
I prefer the size and feel of Duponts but Old Boys are great. I find their tamper handy too and never take it off the lighter. I just extend it and use the unit as a tamper. Then its plenty long for most pipes.

Love this feature about Old Boys. That little detent makes this my most used lighter.
I really only use old boy lighters due to their light weight and compact size and most of all reliability when you strike that flint. The pipe tool insert comes in handy often.
Here is another one I repainted yesterday. They get scuffed up in my pocket bouncing around with my car keys and Czech tools. I use painters tape and a pipe cleaner to suspend it, then 3 spray coats auto touch up paint, two coats of clear coat and a bit of Renaissance wax. My buddy has suggested just sliding the sleeve off to spray it, but its just as easy to quickly mask it off and tuck the tape up under the lip of the frame with your fingernail.

Me too. I want to take a longer look at some old lighters and build a collection...my wife thinks I'm crazy and she is probably right
Dude I never thought I would spend a lot of money on a lighter, but if you look at piping as a hobby in general, it’s really not unreasonable. $200-$300 isn’t going to make any people gasp when it’s spent on a pipe. And the pipe you can only smoke your dedicated blend in or whatever but a lighter you could use every time you smoke, so it’s money well spent, in my opinion.
I absolutely do NOT have my eyes on vintage Rollagas lighters now.
I went crazy collecting and learning to repair Duponts. Im probably going to sell off most of my collection becuase Id like a nicer archtop guitar. I will still hold on to a few.
I am a cheap bastard, and snagged a gold-plated knock-off from TEMU for less than $4 shipped to my door. They said it would take 8-12 weeks to get to me, but it arrived 15 days later and has lasted for almost a year of daily use without issue. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment. I was on the fence about purchasing a sterling Zippo for my pipes and what pushed me over was the realization that I use my lighter every time I smoke. I've spent that much on pipes in the past so it just made sense to have nicer smoking tools.
I had a Kiribi Kabuto that I loved, until the cap/bar/hinge mechanism slowly got out whack from regular use. I had it repaired once, but it was never the same and eventually the hinge just broke. I’ve had a Corona Old Boy now for considerably longer than I had the Kabuto, with no issues at all. Just one person’s experience. I could get along just fine with a Bic, but wanted something nicer.
