As a lifelong denizen of Kentucky, and an early admirer of bourbon, I cringe at the contemporary bourbon fancier world of the past decade+.
I’ve long admitted to myself that it’s all marketing and subjectivity. Taste..
Rating a bourbon.. or vodka/cigar/pipe tobacco, it’s all subjective for the individual.

An actual Russian with an actual Russian accent brought a bottle of vodka that he said was his favorite- I enjoyed it. It’s not often I hang one on before noon anymore.
🤝I fully agree — it’s just like with tobacco. Tastes and impressions are always subjective: what one person finds “deep and complex,” another may find “flat or dull.” Marketing only amplifies this effect — polished stories and brand legends often shape expectations more than the actual quality. But nevertheless, we still share our impressions of the products — and that’s exactly what makes the exchange interesting.

Had a nice weekend full of long drives and laughter with good friends. I smoked some Haunted Bookshop in a big Savinelli around a fire and on the drive up, then today on the drive down I smoked some Bayou Night in a Savinelli Pot on the way back. Now its just chores and what to do for dinner and perhaps a dessert smoke as well. An afternoon of opportunities.

Enjoying a nice pipe of Erinmore (in an Ennerdale tin) and drinking a beer in the park, in an upgraded WW2 era Brigham, like a vagrant:). Both completely legal in Toronto parks, not that anyone would likely complain anyhow. I have a front and back porch to smoke on, but like flashing and exposing myself in public sometimes…IMG_0913.jpeg
