Went to the doctor today because I'm upset with how much I weigh. Got weighed at 299.4 lbs and I'm 6ft tall. He measured my neck and it was 19.7 inches. He's having me take a sleep study to check for sleep apnea. He said once I'm diagnosed he will prescribe me a GLP-1.

Anyone else have sleep apnea? I'm always tired and I snore very loudly. When I sleep on my back I'll wake up gasping for breath.

I have a number of folks in my circle who are on GLP's for similar reasons and all have had good success with their weight and underlying conditions...Good luck buddy!

I don’t have sleep apnea but when I was overweight I used to snore and my sleep was often interrupted by my wife waking, or should I say, whacking me. 😂

I lost weight and no longer snore. I needed to lose 30 pounds and I did it in one month by eating beef, butter, bacon, and eggs exclusively. As much and as often as I wanted. Never hungry. No exercise required. I drank water and black coffee only. Diet sodas will kill the weight loss. I had high blood pressure and was pre diabetic along with other issues. This all cleared up when I started eating low carb. After I lost the weight I added low carb vegetables to my diet and I am maintaining the weight and my health is greatly improved.

I don't know what your doctor is like, and I'm certainly no physician, but I'd ask about a referral to an endocrinologist, just to find out if there's any underlying causes for the weight if you can't lose it through traditional diet/exercise.

If you have a thyroid condition for instance, a lot of GPs will just look at T4 numbers and only prescribe T4 medication. My wife has Hashimoto's and she has to take not just synthroid (T4 medication), but also liothyronine which is a T3 medication, and after her endo retired, she had a real hard time finding a GP that would prescribe her T3 medication. Many regular GPs don't understand T3 and are reluctant to prescribe any thyroid medication other than T4s.

My own experience, I went nearly 20 years thinking I had insomnia when it turns out, whole time I had severe delayed sleep phase disorder, which regular GPs generally don't know about. Well, insomnia medications don't work on DSPD, no medicines do... only thing that works for it is super intense light therapy that has to be done every day, forever and if you stop, your sleep cycle shifts back to where it was before. Now I don't do the therapy because it can only shift the rhythm by maybe 2 hours at best, which isn't worth the hassle and effort when that means you're only getting up at 11 am at best (a time still unacceptable by society).

But, even specialists can be bad. I also have schizophrenia, and the only medication, back when I was on meds, that worked for me at all was clozapine. At this time, I was taking meds to get stable, then getting off them until I needed them again. Well, I moved to a different state for a job and wasn't on meds, but the stress of the job was making me tank fast had to find a new psych doctor, found one and told him what I had been on, wouldn't prescribe it, insisted on risperidone (which I told him I had been on both risperidone and paliperidone and neither worked for me) because he "felt it was a superior medication".

Now I'm not saying you do have some kind of underlying condition or that your GP is wrong, but I'm of the philosophy of treating the disease rather than the symptoms whenever possible, and that's not to say a "weight loss drug" is a bad thing or shouldn't be taken, just rather I'd want to know if there was an underlying cause and if the cause itself could be treated.

Losing weight isn't really that hard. It's just a matter of wanting to... And pushing back from the table.

You could always just poison yourself with medication from the doctor...
But would you rather exersise self control, or poison yourself so that you're not hungry?

Also, if you take those types of medicines, be prepared to shit yout pants semi-often.

Congratulations on taking the first step. Best wishes!

I have the easiest treatment for weight loss. It’s called “heavy cream”
Drink a pint every morning. All fat calories, no sugar or carbs. Body burns the fat for energy….. good clean fuel for the body.

Your side effects may vary.

Yeah people say the weight loss drugs are “cheating”. Hogwash! I take drugs to lower my cholesterol and BP. I’d probably be dead without them. But I guess that’s cheating too.
You likely need to lose 80 pounds. Use any tool you need to.
And good luck!
I wouldn’t say that drugs are cheating, but the side effects that the voiceover lists at the end of the adds is truly unnerving.
You can accomplish your goals with diet and be generally healthier to boot. It just requires self discipline to put it bluntly.
All the best to you!

No. There are many people with alcohol and drug problems. All they have to do is stop using them. And they can just stop. And then stay away from people and places where those things are.
But if you have a food problem, you still have to eat. Every day. Repeatedly. The temptation is everywhere all the time. It is unceasing. Any little bit of help is okay.

But you have to accept the consequences at least. GLP-1 almost killed my sister in law via pancreatitis. She’s still dealing with the side effects and if it had gone on for a little while longer without diagnosis, she probably wouldn’t be alive right now.

Nothing is risk free.
