What do you like?
I like minimally processed tobaccos. My mouth can only handle humectants and heavy flavorings occasionally or l get chronic irritation. I smoke a lot of D&R blends, such as Three Sails and Windsail Virginias, as well as Two Timer burley, and Ryback which has dark fired Kentucky. I smoke them as is or mix them together to get desired results. I also like Five Brothers, Tabac Manil semois, 507-C Virginia Slices, PS Luxury Navy Flakes. I also smoke a lot of bulk C&D OJK Blue and Pegasus. The great thing about my favorites is that most of them are relatively inexpensive, especially the D&R tobaccos. I envy the people with refined palates who can draw out all the nuances from a blend., but that’s not me so I stick to the basics.

I've got an odd method I used to determine how much I wanted to cellar. When I started and tried a bulk flake I liked, I thought "I need to get enough to fill a flat of jars." And in a pint jar I can fit 8oz. of flake, so 12 of those gets me 6lbs. That worked out well for bulks you can/could buy by the pound(Mac Baren/Newminster), it also worked for bulks you can buy in a 24oz. box(Stokkebye).

Then there's some tins I wanted the same amount of, did the math and for 6lbs. For the STG style flat metal tins that's 54 total if I'm remembering my math and conversion from metric. And I found the distance from the top of my bookshelves in my reading room to the ceiling could fit 27 tins, so two rows of tin towers.

It's divine intervention here, completely out of my control, boys. Who am I to not fill this space with as much tobacco as I could afford?

Glad I stocked up before orders going to WI has the additional excise tax applied. I was kind of in a rush, and then when the Mac Baren/Sutliff/STG stuff went down I was doubly glad I got so much.

Just for fun you can join me as I count my eggs before they hatch! Looks like my cellar may grow some in the next day or two. I just got an email from a local pipe guy I know who says he is going to quit smoking because of health problems. He offered me 180 pouches of Half and Half plus some other odds and ends and a few pipes. Don't know what he will want for it, but in the past he's sold some stuff at great prices. I sent him a reply to call me. I'll let you know what happens. puffy

Always a bit unsettling when someone quits smoking pipes because it's killing them. Makes you think twice.

Some people just don't know their own mind! I heard back from the guy and we agreed on a price and then two minutes later he says he wants to wait a while and be sure the pipe is actually part of his problem. Oh, well. I'll bet it won't be long before I hear from him again. The saga continues.... puffy

That sort of thing fries my bacon......
I had a very similar thing done to me on buying a handgun. A man was letting it be known that he had an old Colt Army in .45 caliber, made around the turn of the century and he wanted to sell it. I contacted him, asked him what he wanted and he said ok. Then calls me back and starts crawfishing on it. Said he might want to leave it to his kids. Oh well.....

Some people are like that. They might not care about something they own, but as soon as someone else shows they would like to have it, the item becomes very precious to them. It's kind of a spin-off of the "positional good". puffy

I went through my (relatively modest) cellar today, and I realized that over half of the tobacco there has been discontinued.

Ah, but I kid, because I've got a fair bit of that going on myself, and I'm not the gouging type. There's something oddly enjoyable about smoking something that's out of production. Almost like I'm getting away with something, it's weird... :)
