This Spring and Summer have been so hot here in upstate NY near the Canadian border. 90+ degrees with 60+% humidity.
The last few days have been in the mid to upper 70s, and the humidity isn't an issue.
I can finally just sit outside our little cabin in the woods and enjoy an evening smoke without hiding under our patio roof.
I do not regret moving out of the big farmhouse into this cabin. There is still a bunch to do, but much less than the 5 bedroom farmhouse. The farmhouse isn't going anywhere, but im just as or more happy here. And yes, the yard always suffers without rain.
This was a gravel driveway until I just let "grass" grow a few years ago. It only bothers you if you look at it. :) It doesn't look as bad in person.

This summer has been as hot and miserable as the summer of 1980 with one huge difference.

1980 was so dry some oak trees died, and most of them turned brown and the leaves fell off like it was fall, and whatever hay there was came early as the first and only cutting. My parents said the same thing happened in 1954, 1936, and 1934.

The humidity was miserable, but we had so much rain here my Amish renter Henry and my friend J C claim there’s just no market to sell hay, everybody who needs hay has a surplus.

Nice Spread! I don't miss the humidity, but I do miss the hardwood forests back there, especially in the autumn. Just remember how hot it was when winter hits.
Is this just a seasonal move or permanent? Must be hard to downsize, we're starting to look at that after living here 30+ years. I remember after college moving was 2 loads in my VW Bug. Not any more!

California has been having the coolest summer in recent memory. Not just here in SoCal, but also had my folks who are up in Marin County recently remark that this has been the coolest summer since they moved up there in 2012.

So much so, our summer crops are growing very slowly, even with the help of the greenhouse. Sadly, the flies are just as bad as ever. 🪰

We've mostly just had a bit more rain than usual. Mowing twice a week - yard is thriving and a deep, dark green. Haven't turned on the sprinkler system once the whole season - sounds like I'll have to whenever the aeration and overseeding is done, according to the guy I decided to engage to help with a couple of challenges last fall and this season.

Headed for a week plus of 85 degrees plus and higher humidity - not that unusual, and we're coming off several days of not so hot.

AC works, Jeep is wide open.

We moved so a family member had room for her family. My niece has 6 kids and is on her own. My wife and I don't need a 5 bedroom house.

I just finally got some grass back after two summers of drought.

We had a lovely July. More cool than usual

A new heat wave starts tomorrow and we dont have ac

If its brief the house still stays cool. We will see
It hasn't rained here in weeks.
These pictures make it look WAY worse for some reason. Just that area between the camera and the cabin actually is brown. The rest looks green in person.

Here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, it's been an unusually hot summer, for sure. Several different weeks (usually with breaks between them) have stayed in the low to mid 90s, day after day.

IIRC, we normally get two or three days like that a summer -- an anomalous spike for one day, in the middle of long stretches of more reasonable temps. To have multiple days like that back to back, in multiple weeks, is uncharacteristic (and unwelcome!).

It's a rainy summer in the deep south. Our tomatoes and watermelons are not great because of it... They taste watered down.

The grass never even died. Weird stuff.

It's going to be hell if we get a nasty hurricane. The ground is so soft the trees will fall right over.

I've already lost a section of fencing due to a healthy old tree falling.

There are long cycles of weather that aren't completely understood. It's a shame too... Seems like some of those climate change knuckleheads could figure them out and help us know what to expect.

I’d like to get back to your neck of the woods, I spent summers and winter vacations in St Germain from late elementary through high school years (my stepmother is from Antigo).
Ruined me on fishing and waterskiing here in AZ-overcrowded dammed canyons are not lakes!

Ah, the Minocqua area is really nice. Yes, lake and fishing central. I'm 80-90 miles east of there. My kids' orthodontist is in that region, and we try to schedule their appointments for days I'm off work so that I can go drop a line in the water!

If you ever want to visit the area again, make sure to let me know so that we can meet up!

I couldn’t make it as a Moniqua-bat, but did a few summers as a Plum Ski-ter over in Sayner😉
