Be on the lookout for this kid.
And by kid I mean child.
Emmett is I believe 14-15 right now, but hes been a very skilled knife maker for years, yes years. :)
I have 2 of his knives(I'll post pics later).
They are of absolute top quality.
Im a lover of budget EDC folders, but im a lifelong outdoorsman and hunter. Fixed blade knives NEED to be of the highest quality.
This kid is no joke.
His website says hes 12, but that may be out dated. Absolutely dont sleep on this kid, he will be huge someday. Get in on his prices now, they will 100% go up.
I have no affiliation with Emmett, im just a satisfied customer.
If the picture on his site doesn't show a sheath, it doesn't have one, which is a bummer. But he does hand make sheaths for an extra cost.

Hugely impressive for a kid. As he hones his craft I hope he starts working in better edge holding steels like 10V. I can barely get through one pig with a 10V knife before it gets dull, even being very careful not to cut through fur, which dulls a blade almost instantly. I also wish he listed the spine thickness of his blades and their approximate hardness. All in good time I suppose.

Both knives I own are 80crv2 steel.
Very good steel with dang good edge retention. He also uses 1084 for his less expensive knives which doesn't hold an edge as good as the 80cr, but its comparable with 1095 if hardend properly.....and its less expensive and good for most jobs.
I don't have any of his 1084, but he does good heat treating.
His dad taught him well.
Heck, ive processed everything from squirrels to moose with a $50 Buck 119 with no issues. Just a bit of stropping and the Buck is good to go.
Ive only done a few whitetails with Emmetts knives, but they still shave hair without any sharpening.
In my experience 10v is a fantastic metal and holds a good edge.....and its super tough.

9cr18Mov steel, frame lock, thumb studs and flipper, micarta scales, steel liners, ball berrings....
Decent edge retention, easy to sharpen and is rock solid.....and $32. :)

Yet ANOTHER budget-ish knife.
QSP Penguin.
14C28N Sandvik steel.
Flipper, nested liners, deep carry reversible pocket clip, thumb studs, G10 scales, button lock, Warncliffe blade, flat grind.
This is the next step up from others I've posted due to better steel.
For around $60 its a lot of knife in my opinion. But can be had with D2 steel for around $40.

I came close to buying a QSP over the weekend. I like that they’re using 14c28n. It’s an awesome steel.

Its like D2 basically, but more stainless and I believe a bit smaller grain structure so it can get sharper.
This Penguin whittles hair....not shave hair, but whittle it. You're a knife guy, you know what I mean.
I looked back and found I paid $48 for this one, not $60.

14c28n is closer to AEB-L than D2, but share some similarities.

The disparity in Carbon % is the most important.

Is this from Larrin Thomas's website.....Knife Steel Nerds? :)
His website is a grest source of information he has gathered himself.
He's the only legitimate knife steel doctor I know of. :)
His actual degree is a PhD in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, but knife steel is his thing.

New addition to the family and in appearance it might seem a bit bland. Nymble X. In the hand it is so damned good. It easily deploys index, thumb, flipper tab and front flip. Wonderful detente and action. Hollow ground belt satin Magnacut 3.6 inch blade with an HRC of 63-64. running ceramic detent ball and caged bearings. I can't wait to carry it.

Picked up a new work tool last week.
Work knives (kitchen knives) don’t get bought and sold with the same frequency as pocket knives for me.

When I find one I like, I’ll stick with it for a long time.
I got the itch recently though and decided to try a medium-ish Nakiri.
I’ve always maintained that 95% of all kitchen duties can be handled by a chefs knife (or Gyuto) and a good paring knife.

[As an aside, I discovered that Rafael Trentins pocket puukkos make for better paring knives than any other I’ve ever tried.]

Anyway, the heart wants what the heart wants.
Though it may look like a cleaver, the details and uses couldn’t be more different.
Essentially, the Nakiri is a chefs knife with the tip end deleted. It’s optimized for chopping produce, and so far it has excelled in that realm.

This Nakiri was made by Zach Rhymer.
Handle is Box Elder Burl and the bolster/accent is comprised of African Blackwood and stainless steel.
The blade is 26C3 (aka Spicy White for its similarly to Aogami White)- a Bohler Uddeholm product. While it does contain some chromium, it is mostly tied up in the formation of carbides, so it is NOT stainless.
It WILL form a lovely patina though.

Haven't been around for months and no idea why I've finally popped into this one, but I saw this post and as a result have contacted him. He has a bird/trout knife that looks pretty interesting to me, just too large for me so I'm seeing if he might be able to fashion one in a smaller overall profile. Figure it's worth giving him a shot.

This kid gets it - email responses were swift to say the least. Once he's done with all the ones he has to get done he'll be in touch and I'm pretty darn sure he will. May have a nice addition to the gear come start of the real pheasant season.

I love carrying different pocket knives. For many years I carried one knife until it ceased to operate.
But im seriously addicted to these budget folders. Im not a collector....I think....but an accumulator.
Got this one today.
Civivi Mini Paraxis flipper.
D2 steel
Liner lock
Linen Micarta scales.
Steel liners
Ceramic ball berrings
Razor sharp and flawless fit and finish.
I remember when D2 was considered a "super steel". When done right, its a great edc folder steel.

And another Civivi.
This is the Imperium.
Damascus blade.
Front flipper and studs.
Ceramic bearings.
Micarta scales.
Liner lock.
Steel liners.
Their Damascus is kind of a secret I guess, but they have mentioned 9Cr18MoV, 10Cr15MoV, AUS-8, 440 B&C.......
It holds a good edge and sharpens great. This one is new.
