Took my new Savinelli Miele 614 apple into LA with me last week. As you can see from the photos, the leather left some scuff marks behind on the bowl. Superficial stuff, nothing very deep, but still quite annoying for a brand new pipe. It looks a little worse on the starboard side than the port side. Seems like a no big deal thing (fingers crossed as I type this, or just after, as it'd make typing very difficult), but I just wanted to put the inquiry out there, since I know there are some real champion repair artists on here. Thank you in advance for the advice!

It's the latter. An extremely thin layer of the leather scuff, but it's there for sure.

At this point, it just feels to me like Embers' nail buffer block idea will totally do the trick.
I would not take anything abrasive to that if it's just stuff stuck on the pipe. If a good scrub with water on a rag doesn't touch it then I'd start with a little Murphy's soap added to some water and a generous helping of elbow grease. A buffing wheel would probably take care of it pretty quickly if you have one handy.

no suggestions from me but dang I’d be pissed at that bag!
SP.com's brand. I wish they made the stem loops a bit looser, but other than that, no complaints.

If that's not acceptable an axe might be fun to use.
Tried that. Axes are no good as pipes. I cut my finger every time I tamp. On the plus side, it keeps people at a great distance when I smoke in public. :)

Nothing to do with damage caused by a leather bag.

The stummel left the factory with incompletely removed sanding marks which were then "filled in" by a total-coverage application of shellac, clear-coat style, that wasn't sanded.

Both ^^^^ are beginner-level errors.

Being de facto buffed from traveling (suitcase pressure, vibration, etc.) just wore away some of the shellac.

That’s reassuring. Thanks.
