In addition to the usual weight, length, bowl capacity etc. measurements provided about new pipes for sale, the Danish Pipe Shop website also provided this schematic and these two important pieces of data about some Tom Eltang pipes I was looking at online:

F:Button width: 13,1 mm
G:Bit thickness: 3,8 mm

I do not like buying a pipe only to have to take it down to my amateur garage workshop to file down the button to what I find comfortable (less than 4mm). I would love to see other on-line pipe retailers start to list these dimensions as well. Do any other retailers provide these bit/button measurements that you’ve seen?

Same, and it's so helpful! Wish they would also add the bite zone thickness but they're already doing more than everyone else.
I agree that knowing the bite zone thickness would be very helpful. Since most artisans pay close attention to that detail, I’m not sure why retailers don’t add that measurement to the description, as well.

I love Castello pipes, especially the quality of their briar which keeps a pipe lit. But it is nice to know the bit thickness measurement when ordering one. Here are three posted on Danish Pipe Shop, showing bits ranging from 4.3mm to 5.2mm. It’s just good information to have available when selecting a pipe, especially one with a hard acrylic stem.

Those first two have to be the thinnest bits they've ever done.
