According to the website, the guy started on YouTube, check his YouTube page and he started videos just 9 months ago. Also according to his site, he's pretty much doing all this stuff on his own.

So, I'm inclined to think if nobody heard back yet, it's not necessarily a scam or something, seems like someone's side-gig that maybe they're trying to turn into a full-time thing and they're just a little slow getting rolling, or he's still figuring out how to do everything? The website looks pretty bare and minimal, like it was just made last week.

I'm personally not interested in print magazines at all, for anything, they just become clutter. I'd rather an e-mail newsletter myself for keeping up with the latest news about an interest, if there is any news.

Not knocking the guy or what he's trying to do, but I'm not interested in any of that "influencer" type of thing (at one point he mentioned his Instagram)—it's just not for me. Same with YouTube pipe videos.

And I'm also not against those kind of platforms or videos or "content", hell I watch YouTube all the time, but it's all educational or entertainment that's specific to my interests... I just never found "pipe content" to be either (educational or entertaining, though maybe educational if you're a new smoker). However, the stuff I do watch, most might find to be boring too.

For many years, I served on an Academy jury selecting applicants to receive animation internships to work at various animation studios.

The applicants largely came in one of three varieties.

1. Sincere but clueless.

2. Trying to impress but lacking the goods.

3. Holy shit! This is good!

After looking at the website, I’m assigning this to category 1, as I’m in a charitable mood.

Nope! I doubt at the price that it'll last long. What new info could it possibly contain? know how to load, light and puff. Why in the world would I need an expensive magazine. Moneys better spent on tobacco I'd guess.
Hey Warren - appreciate the feedback. Out of curiosity, why do you think the mag is expensive? What kind of price point would you expect for someone self-publishing a magazine?

I'm not trying to create something new. If that were the case, why does anyone make posts here or otherwise. But in short, I want to try and share this wonderful culture of pipe smoking that both you and I enjoy through print media.

I've seen mention of this elsewhere, along with comments from people who also subscribed but said they've not heard bupkis since subscribing. I have no direct experience myself and can neither confirm nor deny, just passing along what I've read.
Hey khiddy! I'd be curious as to the people who haven't heard anything from me. I've tried to be really transparent and communicative. My inbox is always open, and if they wondering about anything, I do my best to respond in a timely manner!

That sums it up pretty much. I don't even consider it a side gig, because I'm not making any money. Would it be cool if this could go grow? Sure. But even more than that, I thought it was a fun way of sharing stories and tales of pipe smoking.

Most of the content isn't written by me, but other pipe smokers. So in a lot of ways I see this as a 'by pipe smokers for pipe smokers' kind of thing. As far as the influencer piece - I'm not trying to go for that in any sort of way. Why choose pipe smoking as a niche to become an influencer in? Lol, probably a lot of better options to try. But I understand the comment though.

Even though I have years of Pipes snd Tobacco magazines, many still in plastic and unread, I ordered one of these magazines. Its $13, we will see where it goes. :)
Thank you! I'm currently waiting on more to arrive from the printer as I sold the initial run I got. I'm told that they will be here this week, and all orders in my queue will be shipped this week as well as long as they come in :)

Don't ask me, but here's my opinion. If what you're offering is good, the price is more than fair. If it's going to be a compilation of what's on the internet, no. What sections will the magazine have? If you need a photo of a specific pipe or accessory, if it's among the ones I have, don't hesitate to ask.

I'd like to see personal stories over redundant internet copy/paste.

Are you suggesting that nothing new is ever posted here?

While a lot of posts here are rehashed SOS, not all of them are. The sub-forum on eBay sales of British pipes is a continual font of new information about vintage pipes, the people who sold them, the people who made them, thanks to people here who are very knowledgeable on the topic and are constantly engaged in research.

There are discussions over new blends, new films, books, and...your endeavors, for example. So, the reasons for people to post here can include, new and hopefully interesting information, contrasting points of view on a topic of interest, besides the 10,000th "how do you clean a pipe" thread. And even there, there might be something new or something that's a really bad idea, which can be discussed.

The only real drawback to printed media is that it's inert, not interactive, and people are increasingly drawn to platforms that allow for interactivity, for better or for worse. That desire for interactivity is what attracts people to antisocial media, and forums of various topics.
