Picked this bad boy up today as an unsmoked estate from SP. I believe by the dims given that it was mislabeled as a pub pipe and it is actually a house pipe. Either way, I'm excited for it.

Congratulations! I took a hard look at that pipe, but pulled the trigger on this one instead...

I just received these weeks deliveries and although excited I am quite confused about a few of the Petes and without the book I hit a wall very fast. Hopefully the collective wisdom would be able to shed light on these gems.

1. Made in Ireland De Luxe 11S - no Hallmark's and pretty gold looking Silver... I haven't polished it properly yet, but I need to know what I'm working with before I do anything. I assume it's between 1938-1968 and apparently there is a way to date these pipes using the book.

2. Another made in Ireland de luxe - this time a 8S and no hallmarks again...

3. What is a Dublin Castle?

4. A Sherlock Holmes - no model name and weird looking hallmarks.IMG_5645.jpegIMG_5646.jpegIMG_5647.jpeg

Great Haul. The dublin castle is just a line like any other. The non labeled Sherlock is an early one as they didn't write the names on them. As far as no hallmarks...I remember reading something but can't remember the why.

Your no-hallmark Deluxe’s are 1947-49. Not having hallmarks is pretty common for post war/ pre-republic pipes. I’d say the vast majority of them are not hallmarked. The British government had better things to do than police silver purity, like rebuilding from the blitz. And anything made for export didn’t have to be hallmarked anyway.

Thank you so much for shrinking the time period.

Let me know if you have any desire to let that 11s go.

Without hallmarks, many times the best you can do is ascertain a range of years like @RustiePyles CPG provided (even if you had the book).

You are definitely finding good finds in you area!
This is a confusing one for me, since we know that the series was launched in 1988(or 1987), we know that the first editions didn't have the shape name stamped but then again I have other original series Sherlocks with normal hallmarks for 1989 and 1990.

From my point of view, the weird hallmarked ones could only be 1988 or 1987. If someone has a Sherlock with a "C", then only 1987 is left... And if someone has a Sherlock with a "B", I will...

That’s a 1990, so nothing odd about it in my (non-certified Pete geek) opinion.
I’ve got an original series Squire that’s the same.
