Did a set of walking reps in the brutal heat and humidity, and smoked a bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in a slight bent black pattern etched 1977 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma level top billiard with a gray swirl acrylic saddle stem. Fed all the ferals. Abner the Eager is on top of my chair after eating more than usual. Tomato the Brave is by my feet. It's an off diet day for me!! :)

I love mornings where I’ve got the day off and nothing on my agenda. But I guess that’s how birthdays should go. Easing into the day smoking a delicious bowl of Salty Dogs in a Rattrays Goblin billiard with some nice, hot, coffee. ☕️ Hope you all have a great day!View attachment 402269
@VDL_Piper thats such a terrifying and sad experience and I’m sorry it happened. As others noted it’s good you were there even though the worst happened. May his family find peace and healing.
Happy Birthday, enjoy!

Actually, I disagree! Nice lines, well chosen mouthpiece, and the briar itself has a nice and gentle figure that say's "relax and smoke me." A fine piece of folk art. My newly designated "opera pipe," on the other hand . . . . . four fingers and a thumb. I still think it wins the kewpie doll for homely.

I knew a guy in university days, one of the most handsome dudes I'd ever met, who was lusted after by every girl on campus, who married a girl as you described - she even had a bit of Bell's Palsy. Not a looker. He often was asked "Why?" His answer was simply, "Because I love her. Finest girl and most beautiful soul I've ever met. Wouldn't trade her even up for Marilyn Monroe." They're still married as far as I know - I left Vancouver/Victoria in 1998 to come up to PG and lost track.

Delightful post that made my morning! Let's revel in our uglies!
Why thank you, @gord and @Sobrbiker for your kind words.

She'll never run for "Miss America" but maybe, once I pass on y'all's compliments, she'll let me take her out in public once in a while without feeling self-conscious. :col:

Kind of a repost of a repost . . . . lot of handy guy homespun stuff happening lately, and I'm joining the crowd.

I sprung for another one of these "uglies" exactly the same pipe, not because I want or need another one, but because it's got so much wood on it that I've asked my friend Stuart, who's getting into pipemaking, to show me how to sand, alter, stain and repair pipes if I should damage or break them.

Went this route because its about half the price of a block of raw briar available locally, and if I'm lucky, I'll end up with another version of the same pipe but a different finish and/or minor modifications.

As this is a smoking thread, I'll also let it be known that I'll be smoking this same pipe, the venerable Mr. Brog #52 "Scoot," as my evening smoke tonight, but with Borkum Riff Dark Cavendish, an excellent tobacco for sure.

Man, I wish I could stop experimenting with everything I touch, but I guess it's just in my nature. Yeah, I'm aware of the old adage "Curiosity killed the cat" but just put it in the back of my mind in case I get interested do it yourself in do-it-yourself alternate energy sources for Armageddon, and homemade fireworks . . . . 🤪

Happy birthday, @HeavyLeadBelly !

Are you a Leadbelly fan?
Thank you sir. Yes, I dont mind some of his stuff though I haven’t taken a close listen like have with other blues greats like Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters etc.

HeavyLeadBelly has been my online handle for decades but I can’t remember why I came up with it. I think one part is I’m a husky dude lol

Been there and done that . . . . was downright fat in my 50's. Intermittent fasting was my key when I decided to stop wearing tents and 5x trackpants. Got down to my present 150 pounds now, not that much more than my highschool weight. At 74 though, not likely to take up contact sports again . . . . especially with the bum knees that go with all of this current gym nonsense. Had a negative effect on my joints. Bon chance, mon ami.

Oh yeah . . . . I know a few guys who lost tons of weight by going to ballet classes. Loaded with dynamite ladies, too. Might not be your schtick though. The wife will be suspicious.

Enjoyed a tall stack of cinnamon raisin French toast with unsalted peanuts, cherries, and a red delicious apple on the side. Then, I had a bowl of tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. I followed that up with a bowl of year 2020 Watch City Rouxgaroux in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY Natural 4AB No. 6/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Gold Star Peruvian Macchu Picchu, neat, is my drink.
