I bet you're correct.
That straight system collection is amazing. I keep coming back to look at them again and again. I need to start the hunt for an old straight system Pete. Here’s a pair of B42’s, a B84 if you will.

Love seeing the pipes that you get, Petes or not. Thanks for sharing! It’s that blissful day again - when last week’s eBay spoils start arriving. I’ve been looking into getting a pipe cabinet of some sort, because my personal collection is slowly growing, but most importantly because it stays in the same room where I restore pipes, meaning the everything is covered in dust all the time…
I found a good looking cabinet with a glass door and room for 21 pipes and some tobacco, paid 120€ for it and waited. Turns out, it comes with 21 pipes in it! View attachment 401906View attachment 401907
A pleasant surprise, even though they are mostly Lindstrøms, Vauens and lorenzos… most were smoked rarely and just dirty.
But then I see a P-Lip with a P logo on it.

These days I almost never stumble on a Peterson that I know nothing about and this might be obvious for you guys, but what the hell is a Captain Pete?!?
Any information about it or about how old is it, would be greatly appreciated!
I can't answer specifically about what a Captain Pete "is", but I have 2 that are a bent bulldog shape. I don't recall if mine have the same gold-silver-gold band as yours, I'd have to look, but probably the same. Both of mine are pretty hefty and feel nice in hand and stay cool. Also the same rustication. It’s that blissful day again - when last week’s eBay spoils start arriving. Yes it feels very hefty and robust tried googling but I got nothing specific, also weirdly enough I can’t find anything on eBay finished auctions….I can't answer specifically about what a Captain Pete "is", but I have 2 that are a bent bulldog shape. There, absolutely no real help at all. Sorry.
I just tried petersonpipenotes.org and nothing came up with a search there. I'm sure it's in my Peterson book at home but I've not studied through it yet. It is great for looking up things when I wish, but I've not memorized it by any means...Yes it feels very hefty and robust tried googling but I got nothing specific, also weirdly enough I can’t find anything on eBay finished auctions….
Yeah rub it in… do I have to sell my soul in order to get a copy of this book…I just tried petersonpipenotes.org and nothing came up with a search there. Working on it right now, I can confirm that it hasn’t been smoked more than a couple of times.Captain Pete was just a line of Peterson’s, been around for ages. They were generally pretty limited in shape/scope and tended to be of chunky proportions. Yours is a nice example with the bimetallic ring and lovely rustication. They were mostly on par with Shamrock grade.
