Jarred in 2012. Plug is hard as a rock. I peeled about a quarter-of-an-inch-thick layer off, cut it lengthwise, then cubed it with a cigar cutter. Then rubbed it out vigorously, but still ended up with a basic cube cut. Took three or four lights, then settled into a reliable easy smoke. This is Best Brown Flake still in plug form. It's been too long since I've had BBF, so I can't comment on the subtleties, but I will be opening some BBF soon to compare.
It's tangy, slightly sweet and earthy. Straight up, unadulterated Virginia flavors similar to Full Virginia Flake, but seems more "austere" or astringent. Dries out the tongue a bit like VAs tend to do for me personally, but more so than FVF. I get a little wood, vaguely similar to the smell of freshly split oak for you woodsmen and women out there. I like a good straight Virginia, but much more into darker, more moody ones like Wessex Campaign, which is probably my all time favorite VA.
