Absolutely. I wake up at 4:00AM every day, even on weekends, so that I can have coffee/read/spend some time with the animals. If I forget to set my alarm and end up sleeping in, I feel like half my day is wasted. I wouldn't say it ruins the rest of my day, it's just... disappointing.
Wake up 4 in the morning? What time do you goto sleep?

Mornings are busy time. As soon as I'm up, there will be something that needs to be done. Never really had quiet mornings. Night time on the other hand is my quiet time. My wife and kids usually fall asleep around 10, 11. Usually I just do my thing till whenever until I pass out.

I’m up at 4 AM every morning for work. Usually no time then for anything. Pipe time comes after work before the wife gets home. Weekends I’m still up at 4 AM which provides good pipe and coffee time before everyone else starts their day. While I do smoke my pipe in the house when I want to, I usually prefer the smoking parlor/utility room for peace and quiet. Just me, my pipe and Johnnie the Sleeper Hound. He’s a good boy.

For years I started work at 3 am. I had to be up by 2. It was tough at times but I really enjoyed it. Once that changed I kept getting up around 4 or 430 for years, now I’m up around 530. I have about 45 mins to myself before the day really begins. I do miss the old days and the extra early mornings.

And then ……. the pup decided 4:30 which is two days in a row and we aren’t going to have that, she got to go out, have breakfast and promptly jumped on the sofa and is snoring away, lol. She nudges, I wake up and can’t get back to sleep. If we have this again tomorrow she’ll spend a couple nights in her crate in the BR (which is really where she should sleep anyway) and likely problem solved. So there are limits as to the amount of magic time I want in the morning.

Ha, I wake up to a bunch of whining dogs, by 5am I'm feeding and watering a bunch of freeloading cows, goats and other critters.
About 7am I finally get to really wake up. Then I go to bed at 9pm......7 days a week.....365 days a year.......10 years a decade........

the animals are fine. At least they're very happy to see the guy who has food.

I want to start waking up earlier to allow for some time by myself and a pipe, as it is now I have enough time to have a cup of coffee, breakfast, and spend some time with my wife and daughter before I’m out the door and on my way to work. Spending time with them helps me be less grumpy about going to work because I can see and enjoy the two main reasons for why I’m clocking in

I also need my time with the lady before work. For me the ideal situation is I get up and have one or two hours by myself while the cat enters a happy food coma and then some time with the lady before doing anything else.
This process can be measured in cups of coffee. I want my first coffee by myself and my second with my lady love.

I work from home, so my alone time (if the cats are napping then) is usually when I have lunch. Laptop and emails coming in are left upstairs in my office, and I cap lunch off with my one cup of coffee of the day in our “sunroom,” which is a small room with windows on 3 sides. Our home was built in 1926, and it’s obvious that the builders chose the option of making one half of what would have been a house-wide porch an integral part of the house. French doors open into into it from our dining room. It’s over the crawl space of the porch, outside the basement foundation of the rest of the house, and also slopes slightly at the same angle as the porch. In any event, it’s very cosy in there, and I chill out for a few minutes before getting back to the grind. It has the only remaining original windows of the house, which are a nice feature. A little bit of strategic caulking (and an HVAC vent that kicks out the jams) keeps it plenty comfortable summer or winter.
