Well, the Sutliff building is for sale now - 2,6 Million!

Chances are they'll fail to find a buyer and it will lay empty for years amid calls for it to be demolished. That's what happened to the Olympia Brewery. Maybe some hipsters will open a craft distillery or microbrew in it that will close within five years after failing to get shelf space in such an oversaturated market

Why so negative?
I know a guy who ended up a millionaire only three years after opening a small brewery. Of course, he started out with four million, but hey, it’s a passion project, you know?

My father has friends in the restaurant business.. they always said "If you wanna make a little money in this game, be sure to start out with alot" lol.

Not that it's impossible.. but there's a reason most people who start one are already rich.. generally someone with an already decent amount of asset wealth but looking to swap it for cashflow..

Meh. Miller tried at least. The real tragedy was the OLD brick Oly Brewery in that valley by the river rotting away. THAT was like a castle. So cool.

Yeah it's really best when you have other sources of income and can just open it as a hobby

An awful lot of tears for a brand that's been openly reviled and ridiculed on this site alone for years. I've seen new guys here and elsewhere say they'd never buy Sutliff because of what they've read online. What did anyone imagine was going to happen to the company?
they expected the company to out last the last cockroach after the last atomic bomb fell..

Seriously, seen some statitics on petty smokers den, that 90% of sutliff blends fail to sell 1,000 # per year..

Ive had Sutliff blends before, back when that pipeshowonline website was giving out illegal boxes of pouchs as free samples. Got two boxes, and didnt HAVE to buy anything for a whole year.. other then prince albert and half and half.

Almondine had an ok taste, but it made a strange goo in the pipe similar to a rotten potato.. then again, most of those blends did that.

Fox adn Hound i think was ok, but overall most of those pouches didnt make it to the half way mark.

Sutliff had just celebrated its 175th Anniversary and was profitable and innovative. I’ve visited the plant. To close the facility and give 40 American employees pink slips a month before Christmas is a decision the foreign Danish owners will have to live with. And since they did nearly the same thing to fellow Danes who worked for MacBaren, I doubt the STG decision makers lost any sleep over It. But personally I avoided the STG table offering all those gooey aromatics at the Chicago Pipe Show and will continue to do so.

They provided blends for Pipes and Cigars, Wilke, The Country Squire, Watch City and many other labels. My post was facetious as my cellar was mostly C&D and Sutliff. Every time a long condemned brand goes under, posts coke out of the woodwork bemoaning their loss.
