Well, I finally got around to trying Rattray's Marlin Flake. It was excellent, but it ghosted my pipe like crazy. I've never experienced this before.

Any recommendations for getting the funk out? I tried searching on the forum and elsewhere, but couldn't really find any info other than it's most likely hanging out in the shank.

1. Give it a deep cleaning with alcohol dipped pipe cleaners in the shank and stem (unless it’s acrylic then I would do soap and water).

2. Flush the pipe with warm water for a couple of minutes and let it rest and dry for a day.

3. Take wet coffee grounds and let them set in the bowl overnight.

the wet coffee grounds cured my sour pipe so. Could see it working on a ghost. If you've never had a pipe go sour it's terrible and persistent.

It does work. Try Five Brothers.
I've been meaning to try that one anyway. A good excuse!

I'll give this a whirl. I like the coffee ground idea. If it works to cleanse a sniffer, it probably works on a pipe too!

Thankfully, I haven't... yet...
I don't think of Marlin Flake as a blend that ghosts so maybe your pipe just needs a good cleaning?

If not you could just keep smoking Marling Flake. It's great stuff.
I really enjoyed it, so this isn't a bad option! Hah.
I've never in my pipesmoking life heard of Marlin Flake ghosting a pipe. What does the ghost taste like... tobacco?
It kind of tastes the way that old people smell.

I used to just throw them away before joining this forum and learning some of the tricks. I used to just smoke 1 or 2 pipes until I tossed them. Now I mostly smoke meerschaum and have enough briars for them not to sour.
