Dr.Grabow Riviera Patent # Pipe

Howdy,

I picked up some pipes and there was this Dr.Grabow included with them, I'm not really sure what to do with it since it's not a pipe I was intending to own, and would just as soon trade it for a few tins (once I'm a full fledged member).

Is this a pipe that people like, or a desirable model? Do all Dr. Grabow pipes have patent numbers on them?

Questionable,
Dr. Grabow is a solid classic brand. I guess it's the most iconic mass-made US briar pipe brand still in production.
My two best pipes are Grabows, a Grand Duke and Full Bent. Neither has a patent number. They just say Dr. Grabow and Imported Briar.
If your Grabow is an estate/used pipe, you can try it and let us know what you think.

The good news first!

That old Adjustomatic Riviera was the top of the line Grabow, the ten dollar grade in a world where a two or three dollar Grabow was the standard!

Now for more sobering news.

Because Grabow won the pipe wars, and sold countless millions of lesser grade pipes, the resale value of a beautiful and scarce old Riviera is not what it should be. It’s only worth a small tin or two of tobacco.

Keep it. Take Murphy’s oil soap and 4/0 steel wool and strip all the varnish off. Grabow did not cheat their customers. That is the equal of any machine shaped pipe ever made anywhere.

And you can say you own a pipe I’ve been looking for without result for about thirty years.
