Went out to Freeport on an emergency Clydesdale call while I'm examining the horse my pocket tin of Captain Earls Honor Blend fell out of my shirt pocket got stepped on and destroyed.

Not wanting to make the hour-long drive back to Sealy without something to smoke I stopped in a little hole in the wall mom and pop store figuring a King Edward would get me home and low and behold there next to the King Edward Imperial's was 1 can of pipe tobacco with a lid I haven't seen since my dad's old Middelton Cherry blend.

I'm thinking never heard of Bond Street but for 10 bucks can't hurt. Though I have no idea how old it is but it's a damned fine Virginia smoke, wish I could get more.bond street.jpg

What a find! Not that it's a good thing that you lost the Honor Blend, but finding a tub of Bond Street is near-miraculous. I don't know how long it's been off the market, but it's been decades since it was available in any package size.

IIRC, C&D's Pegasus, blended by the late Bob Runowski, is his homage to the original Bond Street blend, though it is primarily burley based. Reviews are mixed on how well he did, those who praised it most seemed to give the caveat that it had been years since they'd smoked the original Bond Street.

You may be in a unique position to give a direct side-by-side (though the tin of BS that you have also is well aged, so that has to be taken into account as well).

Not to hijack your thread, but.....
A few years ago while smoking a pipe while inspecting a section of fence, I set down my old GBD 9456 pipe on a fence post, or a bale of hay....not sure.
After doing what I was doing, I went to get my pipe. It was GONE.
Looking around I noticed a cow chewing her cud extra heartily.
Dang nasty cow had my pipe in her mouth. Her nasty, slimy mouth.
The pipe was one of my favorites, but it was FUBAR. :(

I have a couple of the small tins (empty) from my late Father-in-law. I always wondered how it tasted, thanks for sharing!

Bond Street was one of my granddaddy’s favorites back in the 50s-60s. The artwork on the tin itself was also one of my mom’s favorites as a child. She and her sister would play with an empty tin like a doll house.

I occasionally pass small roadside family-owned stores which have been around for many decades, and wonder whether they'd be worth checking for tobacco treasures. Your story gives me hope.
from the looks of this one it was built in the 50's they still have the old-style coke coolers out front. I don't know if you're old enough to remember those or not but the ones you lift the lid instead of open the door.

I remember seeing those when I was a kid. Out in the country, things like that stay around a lot longer than in the city. It's the same way here, so maybe I'll see one again.
