Don't fully pack the chamber. Leave about a quarter of an inch between the top of the tobacco and the rim. That's really for any pipe though to prevent rim scorching and cracksAny tips on how to prevent it besides smoking it cool?

Have your pipes with cracks gotten worse? Good to know!I own hundreds of pipes and I’ve noticed the ones that have the most tendency to show tiny cracks are made in rainy old England.
My theory is the aged briar never can truly dry out until the pipes are shipped across the pond to the colonies and when they do, very, very occasionally there’s a crack.
Take comfort to know the only thing damaged is pride of ownership.
