Let's Discuss this Forum

I have noticed recently some complaints about people's reactions and comments concerning certain topics. A forum is made for exactly that purpose. Those individuals have the forum to discuss their concerns and opinions. Do you have to agree with them -No. You have that right in a forum. The wonderful thing about this forum is that we have a mix of all sorts of individuals and opinions. We have complainers, we have jokesters, we have some who don't have a clue and those that have forgotten more about pipe smoking than I will ever know. If you don't like what they say-don't read their posts. Another great thing about this forum are the friends that you develop that you will never meet. I will ever be thankful for several members who had concern and reached out to me when I almost died 3 years ago from a auto-immune disease caused from Long-Covid. Because of the forum we know about their pets, their problems, their wishes, disappointments- in other words we have a family. So if you want to complain about the complainers, you have that right in a forum. Just remember all the good things about it and how much you would miss it if it wasn't here.

Well said. I appreciate this forum and the community that it has created. There can be some drama sometimes (for reasons beyond my understanding), but overall we have a great group of people contributing here and I always enjoy reading everyone's posts.

My favorites are the "Only post facts" folks. If that were the case, the forums would be empty.
It's all about camaradaerie, expressions of opinions, and also the little teeny tiny bit of information that trickles through.

Disagreeing is great. Stating alternative, minority points of view is great, especially unpopular ones.

Being a dick isn't great. Tagging your friends in a thread so they can join in and be dicks isn't great. Making a point or a suggestion, that could otherwise be done discreetly and amicably, in a public and very condescending way isn't great.

You have to have a sense of humor in 'most' things ; I think this forum has that and I experienced it my first week and kept coming back ...

For the short time I've been here, I've enjoyed this forum and find it pretty welcoming. I don't do any social media, and besides one other forum this is the closest thing to social media I'm on. I find it pretty tame, and haven't found anyone all that unreasonable. Everyone has a crap day now and then. This time of year with cabin fever, and the winter doldrums setting in, I expect a few more oddities here and there. It's been both informative and entertaining for me. Well worth the price of admission!

Well if I'm going to get accused for something I didn't do, I figured I'd go all out.

I've obviously not been here long, but not new to forums or pipe smoking. As long as someone isn't violating forum rules by expressing a personal observation, then we can just blow it off and not respond. Sparks only turn into flames if fuel and wind are added.

Is tagging one's friends so that they can be dicks a thing? I hadn't noticed it, but that's a dick move.

If you don't like a subject, don't click on the thread. If you don't like a post, stop reading it. If you don't care for a poster, ignore them or block them. Exercise your freedom of choice and quit being petty. It's so simple one would have to be a special kind of stupid to not get it. It's a great, well run site but owned by somebody else. Don't attempt to ruin it for other members.
