I think I'm taste-challenged (somehow the term undertaster is vaguely unsettling) but it has its upside...I'm not usually disappointed and more easily satisfied.
As funny as that is, you've actually got a really good point. I'm a supertaster myself and I've been through just over 100 pipe blends (and well over $1,000) trying to find a blend I really liked that didn't have something about it that bothered me. Bright Virginias are always too sharp and acidic (most people seem to taste bright Virginias as sweet but to me they're just lemon juice acidy), Red Virginias taste like dead wet leaves in the autumn, the dirty earthiness of Burleys gets off-putting after awhile, Latakia mostly tastes like I licked a dirty fireplace, and Perique gives my mouth fits.
So ya know what I keep coming back to? Captain Black Original. A thousand dollars and a hundred fancy boutique pipe blends later and my most enjoyed smoke is the most pedestrian, lowest common denominator vanilla cream aromatic there is. I guess it just goes to show that having good taste buds doesn't necessarily mean you have good taste.

I feel for you…I would hate to have that level of taste sensitivity…I can’t imagine not being able to smoke Perique.
You type that as if it's a bad thing.
I actually enjoy having under achieving taste buds I may not know what bready Virginias and creamy cavendish actually taste like, but I know what taste good and I don't fret over "well the burley doesn't come into play until halfway through the bowl". my buds just tell me damned we just got another taste going on here.

Maybe it is just my poor english, but I just don’t see the connection between the wiki page and my blend preference. Preference is a personal thing, regardless of your ability to describe/review/detect all the intricate flavors of a blend.

Yep! She's a lot bigger than the puppy by my shoe in my avatar from one and one-half years ago - and she thinks she's a super taster but mostly has a nose that is incredible.
Odd, I'm a super taster and my skills in tasting tobacco aren't particularly good.
