Weber Meerschaum -Info Sought

Hello everyone! I recently purchased this estate Weber meerschaum. I'm curious if anyone knows anything about it. Mainly roughly the year and if it is really African meerschaum. I couldn't really find any info about their meerschaum line only some very basic info on the general history of the company. I did see someone talking about their briars that said the metal logo on the stem means pre late 1950s.

Generally speaking, before maybe the late 40s meerschaums were smooth. There’s exceptions, but not many. I’m not surprised Weber had them. They evidently imported a lot of pipes. 50s works for me if the logo assertion is right. As far as the nature of the material, the turkish stuff has a warm soft buttery feel to it and can feel lighter than you’d expect from the size. African is dense and heavy. It feels like the rock it is.

Yes its screw in. The tenon is metal and the mortise threads seems to be carved into the meerschaum.

In a case like that, I put CA on the internal threads, let it cure and run a tap through the threads to stabilize and re-enforce the threads in the meerschaum.

African meers were often rusticated like this. I'd bet it's the real deal.

whatever the origin it's a nice looking pipe. I never had much draw to African meer but only because Turkish has extra fun properties.

Hello, I have a pot from the same line bought on e bay. The information I found it says it is from the 70's 80's
It is believed African meerschaum,
However I read One person who claims this is just rusticated briar just painted to simulated meerschaum.

I have beem analyzing this pipe since before and I agree it looks it has some paint as coating, even more,'the rusticated seems to be a plaster on top some material ( maybe made of ground meerschaum).
When I scrub inside the bowl it seems to be stone, I have not reach any wood. It also reheats as stones does,
And dries very fast,
It is an excellent smoker.

So the claim that this is just painted briar I doubt it but do not totally discarded,
What it is a fact is that it has some material plaster and coat of paint.

I really love my Weber and keep it with my other meerschaums.

It would be interesting to find a dead body pipe to make autopsy.

The screw into stummel metal tenon, Aluminum I believe, were used on the African Meerschaum pipes from Kiko/Ambroseli . Those same tenons appear on GBD meerschaums made from African Meer. I had one Weber "meerschaum" that looked like painted wood. I scraped the paint of for sure. I sold it. The six other weber meerschaum I have are African meer carved as your pipe.

I'm not an expert on Weber, but I do know Kikos!

Without citing any authority, I can say that my own experiential/anecdotal understanding is that the Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation marketed their pipes under many other brands.

So, my off- the- cuff take is that you have a mid- to late-50s Kiko pipe made of Amboseli Meerschaum branded and sold through Weber.

... but I could be wrong
