Not that old, but old enough. I noticed these some time ago at a friend's house. Told him if he ever wanted to get rid of them, I would take them off his hands and today was the day. He bought them new and smoked them a few times before he decided pipe smoking wasn't for him. Three Dr Grabow blue spades, a Belmont Whitehall, Filtermaster, and a Kaywoodie Campus. Came with the stand. They need cleaning up so now I have something to do on a rainy day.View attachment 197926
I had a bulldog blue spade that I found at a thrift store once. The only estate I ever cleaned and smoked. I actually like it a lot. Ended up selling it off I think. I do miss it though. I believe the blue spades were the first filter pipes by Grabow?

Yes they were their first filtered pipes. I use a balsa filter occasionally but usually smoke them filterless. These can barely be called estates. No cake had developed and all but one was still showing wood in the bowl. The stems are pretty oxidized from 60 years of sitting out in the open. I've got four done so far.

I cleaned up the pipes and they are presentable now. The original picture didn't show how bad the stems had oxidized. They are going into rotation.20230129_161237.jpg20230129_152330.jpg20230129_152300.jpg20230129_152238.jpg20230129_152144.jpg20230129_152100.jpg
