The newest American pipes on the market. I had the distinct honor of Bill welcoming me into the Kaywoodie factory to make my very first line of Greywoodie production pipes. It was a blast to dip my toes into the production style of making pipes, as it is quite different from the handmade process. I kept number zero, the last picture, a Lovat, my favorite shape.

I have been redoing my collection some. I decided to move out any pipe that I don't smoke on a regular basis. I have been adding a number of Jack Howell pipes. They are all commissioned pipes as trying to find an estate Howell is impossible. I looked for over 7 years and never found one.
Here are a few of my new Howells and then a few other American made pipes.

Here is a couple of my Rad Davis:

A Bruce Weaver Volcano

A Brian Ruthenberg pipe.
Smokingpipes.com had an estate Jack Howell on its site the other day.

At one time, there were many American pipe factories, all making essentially the same, mass produced, machine made and hand finished product.

The lack of a nation of origin stamp on this pipe, along with Imported Briar, means it was made in the USA, by some unknown manufacturer.

I’ve seen this same pipe marketed as Amphora, and Acme Powder Company, perhaps others. It’s a simple, machine turned, medium Author with a push type vulcanite stem.

It smokes as well as any other briar pipe, which is to say, excellent.

Briarworks C81. A dandy smoker, among my favorites so far out of 8 pipes and counting. Noticeably CNC cut stummel, but in an enhancing way, not a knock against it. No wonkiness or off center anything, unlike some other pipes I have and have seen in similar price range. And the stem is nicely proportioned, in my opinion, for what they cost. I like it really well.02CDFBE4-1A8D-4623-9418-72AFB60F8398.jpeg

Jesse Jones is a scary-good carver.

Because he's a laid back Old School Gentleman, though, he doesn't drive around the Internet shooting off fireworks to draw attention to himself.

No errors or shortcomings, imo. Perfectly conceived and perfectly executed:

What material is the black band between the briar and the bamboo? I do hope it's not rubber because not everyone knows or cares enough to keep rubber so it won't turn green. 🤨

Honest question here…
Are there pipe makers who promote themselves in a distasteful way? Or do you mean it’s just neat that he isn’t doing it for large monetary gain or fame? Doing it more for his own satisfaction and interest maybe.
Again, honest question, I’m a newb in general, and definitely when it comes to artisan makers; so just curious what you meant.

I meant nothing more than I said. Jesse was raised in a small, isolated western town by an Old School values family, and prefers to let his accomplishments speak for themselves.

Which includes his moustache. rotf

It's ebonite, but since no material is without drawbacks the rubber/acrylic argument boils down to personal preference.

Meaning, by saying "perfectly conceived and executed" I did not mean to imply that Jesse invented and uses some proprietary substance that's without flaws, merely that he chose an industry-standard material and then used it perfectly.
