Title edited for caps and brevity. Truncated part:

'All my English blends get this stuff on them for some reason.'

Smoke some. Your taste buds will tell you if there is something wrong. By the way, what is it and where did it come from? puffy

It’s so small, I wouldn’t have noticed, maybe sugar crystals. Also , if it’s high levels of toxic mold it would smell bad, smell is a huge indicator with mold. If it was tiny amounts, they’d get burnt by the flame and you likely don’t inhale pipe tobacco anyhow.

Fermentation (like with tobacco) uses bacteria and some fungi/mould. Lastly, there are always little bits of mold in the air anyhow, especially in humid climates, only large amounts are deadly, or something to worry over…

Looks good from her: smoke away!

My 4 year old tin of SG Squadron Leader had those little white specks (plus some sparkling crystallization when held in a bright light), and so did my tin 4 year old tin of C&D Bijou (a broken flake with just aged Virginia and Oriental).
