FVF tin …mold, or not?

Hi folks. I opened a tin of FVF, probably six or seven years old, to find this “white stuff on most of the flakes. What say you? Mold … or something nicer? Thank you, Jerry

Need higher resolution pics to answer that, unfortunately. If I had to guess from what I see, I'm going to say no. Not mold. Hopefully others can chime in to help

Hey Jerry, that looks like the good stuff, plume/bloom to me. I have some nicely aged stonehaven that looks just like that.

I’m pretty certain that that’s sugar crystals

Looks like a normal tin of SF FVF.

Sparkly --> plume, good. Furry --> mold, bad.

Looks similar to a 12 yo tin I opened a couple of months ago.

Besides sparkly v fuzzy, you can also rely on smell. If it smells moldy, toss it.

Didn't people used to smoke moldy stuff to get closer to god? YMMV from just getting buzzed to actually meeting him for good. Can't tell from pictures.

Doesn't look like mold to me, just mineral deposits leaching to the surface.

Just so you know, if it’s GH or SG it’s Plume and good to smoke. If it’s C&D, its mold.

Sadly, SG has had some moldy FVF in the not distant past. My recollection is that it was in the large bulk packs that were affected.

Mold can afflict any manufacturer’s tobacco. You really need to take each case of “mold or not” individually.

I was just being sarcastic. But that is usually the way these discussions go.

It’s 99% not mold, on account of the patches being streaky indicating where the cutting blade squeezed out tobacco and casing oils, which then dried over time. Mold would be either irregular OR originating from a place and spreading in patches, and fuzzy or powdery.
