Sorry Mods to re-open a can of worms, and feel free to shut this down immediately, but I missed the Mr Rock/Smith Oscar thread when it was open. Just want to say, that reading a bunch of pipe smokin dudes unexpectedly weigh in on this was one of the expectedly funny things I’ve read in a long while. Clearly @telescopes had the most balanced correct analysis, but damn, @Servant King hit a full 4 stars with his Penzance tobacco geek reference! What a great group! :)

Comedians are now on notice that they can be slapped for telling bad jokes.

Chris Rock handled it well. After all, Rock had the microphone and a quick wit. I bet it took everything he had not to ask whether the carpet matched the drapes.

This! Rock could have DESTROYED them with his words if he wanted to. He took the high road for sure.

I started a thread on this topic the day after, and it got locked after a couple dozen people posted how they didn't care about it.
Hi Mike. I know, yours is the one I’m referencing. I don’t think it got shut down because no one cared about it, it got shut down because discussing Hollywood nonsense was degrading the level of gentlemanly discourse that is expected from gentlemanly pipe smokers. I agreed with it getting shut down, just wanted to make my comment because it was damn funny.

I'm assuming this wasn't a pre-arranged routine, which many suspected at first. Jokes about peoples' traumatic health problems are pretty reprehensible. I place a lot of the blame on Chris Rock. And he didn't suffer a broken nose or jaw from a slap. If Smith knew he would get to speak, he could have done a lot worse just by expressing what a low and cruel joke that was, which it absolutely was. Other peoples' health problems aren't comedy material, period.
