I lived in Manhattan after the side streets become one way, and all the avenues except Park and (?) were one way.

But when I visited Manhattan before that, it seemed traffic blockage on side streets became worse when they became one way! Odd.

Have you ever driven much in Philadelphia? Traffic is much worse due to their street layout, getting stuck behind a garbage truck there stinks in a few different ways.

I'll take parallel parking all day long over trying to back up an empty trailer. A fully loaded trailer, no problem! But empty and no weight on the wheels, it brings me to a rage, ha ha.
