Nothing wrong with living large as your budget permits. If you find you need a few more pipes for a rotation, if you research pipes and shop carefully, you can often buy a good smoking pipe for as little as forty or fifty dollars, and on up. Examples are Tsuge tasting pipes which are really full size; Savinelli unfinished pipes; GBD half price at Iwan Ries, and seconds available for $20 if you buy three; Rossi pipes which are made by Savinelli in Sav shapes, with less exalted finishes; among others, and many brand name pipes available from time to time on sale. Nothing wrong with getting something "good" for starters.

Good advise. I was looking at Rossi 8320
