Museum of The Fur Trade Tobacciana Items

Last week I visited the Museum of The Fur Trade outside of Chadron Nebraska. I'm attaching some photos - among them some interesting tobacciana items. I was fascinated with the tobacco boxes with "burning glasses

I have tried to make a tobacco carrot with raw leaf, wrapping right takes frontiersman to do it ?

I was fascinated as well, so I went digging. Here's a reproduction of that style of Tobacco box. The burning glass, is a magnifying glass lense. A solar pipe lighter. Look out Hemp wick, there's a new old game in town for all those uber delicate palates out there!

I've been to Nebraska a number of time but never heard of this museum. Of course, I was mainly going to Omaha and that's a long ways from Chadron. Thanks for sharing!!

I just returned from a Mountain Man Rondy where the purists made & fired their own clay pipes, by hand (no molds) in a campfire. I saw one guy light his up using flint, steel, & charcloth. It was loaded with Capt Black Royal!

The Museum of the Mountain Man, Pinedale, WY is really interesting to see, but it's not near anything. You really have to want to go there.

They often come to this and also have their own events.

Lots of places have local black powder clubs that have their own events, often a weekend rondy or so. Ask around in your area!
