An Unfortunate Break

Was just unpacking my pipe bag and discovered that the tenon on this Barling snapped. The pipe was inside of a hard shell case, so I am not sure how this happened. Pretty heartbreaking nonetheless.

Oh man, that sucks.
Something similar happened to me a little while ago. I pipe I brought off of the bay, came like that. I managed to fix it by gluing a metal tube in there. Not brilliant but it did work.

minor defect that is undetectable? Fast change in temp that can break things and usually it looks relatively clean like that.

Well that just sucks. Anthony Cook repaired a cleanly snapped tenon on a pipe for me and I was incredibly happy with the result, so there’s some good news anyway. Still sucks to see it happen especially in a hard case where you didn’t do anything wrong!

That's a shame about the tenon. The good news is that it can be fixed. The bad news is that making a strong seamless fix takes some high end chops. Anthony Cook and George Dibos are the two restorers I'd trust to do a seamless repair.

I haven't had this like misfortune never happening with the pipes I been receiving or sending out , if the pipes is sent out I use to place foam padding inside the box where the pipe is, But yes , That's real heath breaking to see, as mentioned above a trusted repairman could fix this , and good thing You are in the U.S where You have options to choose from, whereas we here on the old continent we do not have that luxury

I found it at an antique store close to a year ago. Ha, I was I was so excited to add such a pipe to my collection. Oh well, it game me many good smokes.

I just had a tenon repaired like this. It cost $20. I thought the pipe was ruined. Far from it and worth the $20 for a perfect fix. It is like new.

I use George Dibos for any major repairs I need but I don't think he is taking on any new customers at this time.
