When I first got into pipe smoking thirty years ago, I was strictly a no-nonsense straight billiard briar guy. But this time round, I’ve been all about cobs, and found the Dagner cob to be just the sweetest little thing to puff away on. I’m an instant convert to the stubby poker form factor, and it got me thinking about possibly picking up a similar stubby briar poker with a straight stem. First in line would seem to be the Dagner Ring of Fire, but what other recommendations do you have?

I have two pokers from Eltang. They smoke great.

They're very light in the hand and slender. A real minimalist design, which I enjoy.

Flawless engineering with his pipes.

They're not stubby. Quite the opposite, actually, but they do smoke well and are a pleasure to hold.

The Savinellis look great, a rich seam there, but the Eltangs are bit too rich for my blood I’m afraid. Thanks to all for the suggestions, any more gratefully received.

I smoke a Winslow Poker that is perfect for Virginia'sni bought back in 2017 (man time flies!!) It's half smooth half rusticated, thin stem and light enough to clench. Great for car rides back and forth to work!

For the record when I bought it I didn't know what rusticated was and thought it was smooth all the way. Turns out I like it anyhow!

Thanks to all for the recommendations. I kept being drawn back to the Dagner, loving the flame effect rustication of the bowl, and the Danish Pipe Shop got an order out of me yesterday.

The suggestions to give Savinelli’s pokers a look added a few others to my wish list. I‘m really jonesing for this one now:
