Great! Think out of the box. All you could do, is fail. Keep trying. Pine might taste like turpentine when smoked due to the sappy resin content.

Many have made pipes from alternative woods like: Beech, Cherry, Walnut, Osage orange, Lemon wood, Pear, Olive wood, Bocote, Cocobolo, Ebony, and other woods. I used a thick block of super dense Bocote, for the first pipe I ever made. I still have it 35 years later, and it smokes great.

Dust from cutting and sanding might be toxic and cause allergic reactions, so take precautions.
