Coating an Unglazed Clay Pipe "Bit"

I'm a casual clay smoker, and all of my clays have a glazed tip where your mouth goes. I recently ordered one which doesn't have a glazed tip. I've heard of some of the concerns around unglazed clay, and I don't enjoy the stickiness, so I'm planning to DIY some sort of coating.

I know the average PM member is a lot smarter than me, so do y'all have any clever ideas? Any experience doing this yourself? I've seen somebody make a protective covering with string, but I prefer something more unobtrusive.

Surely npod has some BDSM-themed solutions, at the very least.

I put a little chapstick on it and rub it in with a cloth. It will need to be reapplied occasionally, but I already had the stuff in my pipe bag for stem care.
