Hi all, I live on a big hunk of rock in the North Atlantic. Just took up the pipe this year, no other tobacco use for decades. Trying to commune with the gentlemanly pursuits of my roots, I suppose.

Started this spring, trying a single bowl each of about 35-40 blends, before settling in on a few favourites, and expect them to change as my palate develops. Also settled in to 2 bowls a week at most, to 2 bowls a month at least. I’ll take the winter off, all 6 months of it. Happy to report no sense of nicotine addiction, as opposed to cigarettes in my youth.

I chose to stock up on Presbyterian, Balkan Supreme, and a Lane 1-Q/BCA 50/50 mix. It’s funny, I took all year to settle on Presbyterian as my default, and then the next week Planta stopped production and sold out. Maybe I’ll switch to Peterson EMP once it becomes available.

Already learned a lot from this forum all year, and hope to continue. My favourite member to read is mso489 for his thoughtfulness and friendly, understanding demeanour mixed with wisdom gained from personal experience.

Thanks for the upgrade to the software, @admin.

Iceland?

If you're into Lane, the local tobacconist recommended a 50/50 mix of BCA and LBWB. Haven't tried it yet, though. Hmm, there's a project for this weekend...

I did not get the impression that Mac Baren would stop producing Presbyterian after purchasing Planta. Have you heard otherwise?

I assume they will absolutely continue it. But given how much hay is made distinguishing, say, Murray’s Dunhill from STG Dunhill, I won’t assume Planta Presbyterian will be the same as Mac Baren Presbyterian.

Newfoundland! The birthplace of former Detroit Red Wing Dan Cleary, the first Newfoundland born player to win a Stanley Cup! I know, because he did it against my Penguins in 08. Thankfully we paid him back in 09 :)

A fellow Canadian! ?

Watch out, I've always wanted to visit Newfoundland (was actually thinking of relocating there at one time), I might parachute on your lawn one of these days. ?

It’s a fun place. It’s got it’s own cultural feel, adding a layer of homey feeling to the nice views. Rather than on the coastline, I’m in a small town on a salmon river in the woods. More moose than icebergs and whales. If you’re touring the province, let me know.

Thanks. Hockey is serious business here. I’m half wishing my kids don’t grow to love it, with the 05:00 practices and tournaments every weekend.

Yep. Grew up living that life. It was amazing as a kid. But now as a parent it sounds horrifying, hahaha. I still hope my daughter and/or future kids take it up though. It is the greatest game in the world.
