Thank you for joining us for The Pipes Magazine Radio Show—the only radio talk show for pipe smokers and collectors. We want to thank you for listening and being one of our loyal 15,000 weekly fans. In tonight’s “Pipe Parts” segment Brian will talk about Bowl Finishes–smooth, rusticated, sandblast–and grain patterns with regards to how they affect or do not affect the smoking experience. Our Featured Interview is with author, publisher, and “Pipeman”, Gary B. Schrier. Gary is actually the guy that coined the term, “Pipeman” in his second book, “Confessions of a Pipeman”. Gary has authored a few books, and has published many more, all specifically for the pipe smoker and collector. As a matter of fact, a few of his publications are considered collector’s items themselves. Mr. Schrier is smart, witty, charming, and quite opinionated regarding pipes and tobaccos. Whether you agree with him or not, he is always entertaining to talk to.
Tonight’s show is sponsored by Sutliff-Tobacco.com, CupOJoes.com, SmokingPipes.com, Missouri Meerschaum, 4noggins.com, and MeerschaumStore.com, Please give them some consideration when making your next pipe or tobacco purchase.
We hope you enjoy our 50-minute show produced just for you—the pipe smoker and collector. The following link will launch a pop-up player. Alternatively, you can download the show in iTunes after the initial broadcast is complete here.

HI Brian,
Nice seeing you in Columbus.
I agree, the types of finishing (rough, smooth, straight grain, flame grain, sandblast) does not matter to the quality of the smoke. However, a sandblast or rusticated pipe gives a certain “feel” in the hand. Refer to our article in the Pipe Collector “We like it Rough”.
Gary Schrier has done a lot for the hobby despite or inspite of his opinions. A good author and publisher. You may not always agree with him, but he generates quite a few discussions. I think books will be with us forever.
nice music selection,,,gets the blood moving.
We did have a great time in Columbus. Nice show. Kudos to the sponsors,
I agree, the quality of some of the people at Best Buy is not the best,
Keep up the good work, Brian.
Hi Brian,
Nicole and I had a wonderful time with everyone in Columbus and can’t thank you all enough for your hospitality! Great show as always! I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since the first episode. It’s easy for us to remember since our anniversary is just 2 days prior to the radio show’s anniversary 🙂 Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend, and we’ll see you next weekend in Nashville!
Chris
