In the Pipe Parts segment, Brian will explain Dunhill Group Size and what it really means. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

  • It was a good show. After you got done with the Pipe Parts segment it became even more apparent that Pipe Manufacturers (artisans, companies, factories, etc.)can do whatever they want and it is up to us to sort it out. No or changing standards, gradings that are purely guesswork, shapes that are arbitrary as the devil, etc. Good luck my fellow consumers.
Mike’s way of evaluating pipe tobaccos was interesting. The simplest way for me is to listen to people who think like I do on tobacco and go with that.
I suppose I am in the minority but I much preferred the original music.

  • It was nice to hear friend and fellow CPCC member, Mike, again on the show. His tobacco review template is well thought-out and will be quite a boon to newer smokers, trying to navigate the sea of available tobacco choices. I think us older guys, who’ve been smoking for 20 years or more, pretty much know what we like, and can embrace or dismiss a new tobacco after a few bowls.
I liked Steve Vai’s cover of “Sugar Shack.”
    Thanks for another entertaining show,
    Dino

  • Thanks Brian, another great show. Really liked the music, I downloaded that record last week, not a bad cut on it. I had no idea John Ferraro was a pipe smoker, glad to hear that. The Size topic was helpful, now i have to go measure my pipes!

  • I have heard often that Dunhill group size is based on the block of wood before shaping, but have never been able to confirm that. I’m curious if you know any more. Great interview, I may try using Mike’s review form. It seems quite an intuitive way to track tastes. Great music selection as well.
