Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 607

Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 607. Our featured interview tonight is with pipe maker Brian Laurent. Brian has worked with his hands since he was 14-years old. He’s been a woodworker for over 20 years. After he became a pipe smoker, he started making pipe racks, and then graduated to making pipes. He also enjoys painting, working on hot rods, cooking and baking. For his regular job he is a dental technician, implant specialist, and full mouth reconstruction specialist. At the top of the show we will have an Ask the Tobacco Blender segment with Jeremy Reeves. Jeremy is the Head Blender at Cornell & Diehl, which is one of the most popular boutique pipe tobacco companies in the USA.

  • Jeremy always has informative answers to listeners’ questions. Tonight’s comments, with respect to Ben’s question, were I’m sure, very helpful to many who may have wondered the same thing.
Brian Laurent was a fascinating guest. I loved his backstory and his journey as a pipe maker. Nice looking pipes.
“I’ll Be There For You” by Bon Jovi to remember that special moment in your life was lovely. 58 years ago, April 30, 1966, my wife and I had our first date. This song works for me too, as it’s Linda’s favorite group.
Yes, we pipe folk are brothers and sisters, all good friends, with no room for “haters”.
    Thanks for another amazing show.

  • Brian was a very enjoyable guest. I would love to know how much sleep he actually gets. I love the story of him buying the Von Erk pipe and bringing it to Chicago, seeing Lee holding it after 20+ years would have been amazing to see.

    • Oh, and when I hear I’ll be there for you, I always think of Ashston Kutcher singing it in A Lot Like Love.

  • Tonight’s show was very informative but the pipe parts question damn near had me rolling in the aisles. I was as taken aback as Jeremy was answering it. I have been on the forum since 2011 and I have seen many a newbie question but never have I ever seen or heard of a question like “do your wrappers contain some of the flavor. I think would have answered for Jeremy by saying “You have too much time on your hands”.
I rather enjoyed Ben as your guest though I think we can seriously question his chops being only 5 years in pipes. You can see from the pipes on his website the influence that Lee Von Erck has had on him. A number of his pipes have an obvious hint of the loon about them.
Didn’t enjoy the music so much but glad the Girl decided to make an honest man of you.
I agree with you on your rant. No reason for pipe smokers to be angry with each other. We’re not football fans, we’re pipe smokers. Let’s all relax and enjoy our pipes in harmony.
