Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 561

Welcome to The Pipes Magazine Radio Show Episode 561! Our featured interview tonight is with Jacob Hundl. Jacob is a licensed geologist residing in Charlotte, NC. He has a bachelor’s degree in economic geology and a master’s degree in engineering geology. He had the exciting opportunity to tie together his vocation along with his enjoyment of pipes by exploring a meerschaum mine in Turkey. This is the 10th in our series of interviews with “Journeymen Pipe Smokers” – guys that have been smoking pipes between five and 10 years. At the top of the show, Brian will provide his selection of books for gift giving for Father’s Day.

  • Great basic list of Father’s Day pipe book gifts!
Jacob’s travels and experiences were fascinating, and his pipe journey is, to me, less “journeyman” and more “explorer,” considering his on again, off again, background. I’m impressed by his progress and his further explorations. His question about pipe shows got a nicely detailed and heart-felt answer.
I’m a long-time fan of Iturbi, who was a noted pipe smoker. The music you played was the “Ritual Fire Dance” from Manuel de Falla’s ballet “El amor brujo.”
Good “rant.” I hope you have a very Happy Father’s Day!

  • Great list of books for people to read for Father’s Day. I really like Rick Newcombe’s books on “Pipe Dreams”. Fred Hanna’s is very good, also.
Like Dino said Jacob is not a journeyman pipe smoker but more of an explorer if you will. Very pleasant fellow and he asked you a very good question when it was his turn. Well put and well answered. I was going to insert one of Sheldon Cooper’s derisive comments regarding geologists, but my CRS is kicking in, so I won’t.
Figures that Din recognized the music, but I didn’t have a clue.
    Happy Father’s Day to you!!
